Check that the 10th digit matches the year of manufacture. From 2000 onward, it is a number, and before 2000, it is a letter. For example, a 1998 model will have the letter W in the 10th position. Determine the plant where the ATV was made with the 11th digit. [links]
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of your Polaris ATV is a unique number used to identify your vehicle. It is stamped on the frame of your ATV. On vehicles from 1997 and newer, the VIN is 17 digits. here

hello I have a serial # and I cant find the model # I looked on google but I cant have find any site and people confuse them self with the model # the serial # I have is 921638 it a Yamaha 40 2stroke ? . help more
You have the serial number but that is just part of the equation. In front of the serial number will be the shaft length letter and then the model prefix. The whole enchilada is referred to as the primary identification number. PID. more
