Removing and cleaning the O2 sensor is pretty easy. Use Yamaha combustion chamber cleaner on the O2 sensor. Spray the combustion chamber clear into a clean glass jar until there is enough to soak the sensor to the threads. I have found the combustion chamber cleaner does a better job on the O2 sensor than ring free as recommended by Bass and Walleye boats in their O2 sensor cleaning article. When you are done soaking (if needed) spray it clean with electronic parts cleaner. Don't use any other cleaners. It will ruin the sensor. more

The other thing to check are the low pressure fuel pumps. There are three of them on the port side of the motor. The diapraghms on these routinely fail leaking raw fuel into the combustion chamber. This causes the same symptoms you describe. Just loosen each pump away from the block and pump the bulb. If fuel leaks from the pump the diapragms are bad and the pump will have to be replaced. They are about 30$. They can be rebuilt for about 15$ if you are handy. Boats.net has the pumps and the rebuild kit. They fail regularly on these motors.

Don't run you motor at WOT until you get these problems solved. A fouled or non-operational O2 sensor can make the number one cylinder run lean. Running lean will eventually burn the number one piston. Same goes for the fuel pumps. Check and replace before somthing realy bad happens.

If you are on a personal connection, like at home, you can run an anti-virus scan on your device to make sure it is not infected with malware.

To ensure the maximum lifespan of the Oxygen Sensor, it is necessary to perform strict engine maintenance (spark plugs, air filter, et al.). more

- If the engine check light turns on while the vehicle is being driven.
- The engine stutters and suffers from a lack of acceleration power. here

Unburned oil due to engine misfire may contaminate the probe irreversibly. Exhaust leaks also damage the Oxygen Sensor, leading to an intake of air which can cause a dangerous increase in temperature. more

hello
to clean the sensor I remove the sensor and holder then remove the sensor from the holder and take a can of yamaha combustion chamber cleaner and fill the can cap with the spray and soak JUST the element part. if you dunk the whole sensor it dies. I soak my holders in the carb dip and wash them out with combustion chamber cleaner. then I spray everything dry with contact cleaner. remove the draw tube and soak it as well. also clean the carbon out of the hole in the block. there are two gasket kits for the holder to block. use your engine model # to order the correct part.
good luck and keep posting
