So, a stuck open (EGR) valve will create a lack of oxygen in the exhaust; since the recirculating exhaust has all its oxygen already burnt. Furthermore, the (ECM) sometimes uses; the (O2) sensor to check for proper (EGR) operation and sets a code if necessary. [links]
So, the fuel that powers your vehicle is meant to burn in the combustion chamber only. Any fuel that leaves the combustion chamber unburned; will enter the exhaust system and light-off when it reaches the catalytic converter. As a result, this can super-heat the converter far above normal operating conditions and cause a meltdown. here
Alright, guys. I am having a rough time with my 1999 V200TLRX OX66 Outboard. Here is how things went down. I bought this boat from MN in April. I live in Colorado and brought it up to 5280 feet. The motor needed some maintenance so these are all the things I did.
-3 new LP fuel pumps
-Most filters, VST, On-board fuel filter, Water separator on the boat, (not oil filter)
-New lines from Water separator to engine
-New primer bulb
-New plugs, and Plug boots, (Tested resistance)
-O2 sensor looked terrible so I cleaned it up
-Cleaned out the High-pressure regulator screen
The last 2 weeks I have had this motor running like a top. Hitting high RPM's

I'm not completely satisfied with that answer. In particular, I don't want to ruin the motor by continuing to run it if something is wrong. I'm going to get a second opinion, but I'm wondering if someone here can point me in the right direction in terms of questions to ask the second mechanic. I'd also like to hear from anyone who has expereinced (and hopefully solved) this problem. more

I have a 2001 Yamaha SW II OX66 225 HP that seems to run fine, except that above 4700 RPM it suddenly bogs down and fluctuates between 4500 and 5000 about every 3-4 seconds. It's almost as if it's running out of gas, although my mechanic connected a larger fuel line to the motor some time ago. My mechanic suggested it might be a bad coil (whatever that is) and, as long as I don't need to run higher than 4600 RPM (and I don't), I can wait until winter for him to fix it.
