Since it’s from polyethylene, this tarp is highly resistant to any kind of weather conditions, especially marine environment. If you worry the strong wind or heavy rain will ruin your tarp, you don’t have to worry about that with the TAN Sunshade Depot Heavy-Duty Tarp.

After you’ve installed the support system, all you have to do is place the boat tarp over the support system. A boat cover system is essential because it supports the weight of your tarp, so it doesn’t cave in. A sagging or caved in tarp can cause water to collect. Standing water on your tarp can cause your boat cover to stretch and tear. Even the smallest tear can cause water to leak into your boat.

If you like industrial-strength products, then this is the best tarp to cover boat with. The Watershed Innovation Super Heavy-Duty Tarp comes in 8 sizes where the smallest is 12’ x 16’ and the largest is 24’ x 36’. Many boaters who own a jon boat prefer this tarp because it’s suitable for a jon boat tarp. Its variety of sizes makes it a good cover for a jon boat because jon boats are typically between 8’ to 24’.

If you want to cover your boat with a tarp, make sure you get a durable one and have reinforced metal at its wear points, so it will not fray or tear easily. Your draw rope also needs to be tough. A polypropylene rope is a wise choice because its material will not shrink or rot.

Covers on a moored boat can be a pain. You don't want the whole-boat cover like you put on a boat on a trailer in the driveway. Most people with boats like yours have a snap-in cover for the bow area and another from the windshield back to the transom; you just need to protect the carpet and upholstery.

3) Add more tape or glue around the hem; this will be used to affix the patch to the cover. Do the same for the second patch.

7) Repeat for the third side. At this point the fabric is quite twisted with all the turning, so it is a good spot to stop and reorient for the final side. So do a reverse pass to finish here, and then remove the needle. more

If you inspect your boat cover, boat bimini top, or boat canvas regularly (you are doing that right?), then one of these days you’re going to find a hole. Before you run out and drop a bundle on a brand-new cover, consider repairing your existing cover with a patch. It will be less expensive than a new cover, will not take up too much time, and will be more environmentally friendly than sending a cover to the landfill. In this article we’ll discuss the materials and steps required for a basic DIY boat cover tear or hole repair.

4) Stick the patch down over the damaged area, aligning it with existing cover seams or edges for a more pleasing look. Flip over the cover and stick the other patch to the opposite side in the same orientation and spot as the first patch.

5) With your sewing machine, start in one corner and drop the needle by hand to begin. Do a pass or two of reversing to lock the initial stitch, and then sew along the edge to the next corner.

Reinforce the glued patch with stitching all the way around. Be sure to add extra stitching at the beginning and end so it doesn’t unravel. Then inspect the entire patch to make sure there are no gaps. If there are gaps at the edges, glue it down and add stitching.

The first step is to find the length of the patch or torn area using a ruler or a measuring tape. Use this to calculate the size of the canvas required to cover the torn area. Add an extra four inches around the tear size in your measurements. more

Apply the canvas adhesive to the patch pieces and place them on either side of the tear. With the patches in place, weight them down. A book, wooden block, or other heavy item is ideal for this. Allow the adhesive to dry completely under the weight. This works as a strong reinforcement for the stitching. Even if the stitches loosen out, the adhesive will help keep the patch cover attached.

Using scissors, cut the patch piece with the extra four inches around. For example, if the torn area is two inches long and three inches wide, then the patch piece needs to be six inches long and seven inches wide. Two patch pieces are needed to cover both the sides of the boat cover and both should be of the same length and breadth.

Repairing a torn boat cover is a simple job. The boat cover can be repaired by using a small sail repair tape. However, the repairs done using the sail repair tapes won’t hold for a long time. This is because of climate change and heat. Over time, the adhesive present in the sail tape will be damaged and then finally the repairs will be useless. With that in mind, reinforcing the boat cover using a needle and thread or sewing machine is the best method because it is an easy, less expensive, and longer lasting solution. more
