Most importantly, consider standard vacation costs.
Fuel, mooring fees and Customs and Immigration fees for clearing in and out are a few of the costs not included in the price of a charter.
“Charter fees do range according to location and popularity, but more so the costs involved in getting to that location namely airfare, and cost upon arrival either side of the charter for accommodations ashore, taxis and dining,” says VIPCA’s Blake. [links]
Power yachts cost more than sail to charter because of the fuel expenditure, according to Select Yachts’ McHorney. “Most power yachts are priced at ‘plus all expenses’ adding an extra 30- to 35-percent to the published charter rate. However, we are about to launch a solar-powered yacht into charter that does not require fuel or sails! It will cost less than petro-chemically powered yachts with operating costs at 20 percent.” here
Chartering in the Caribbean, like the Med, is seasonal. “Holidays are the most expensive and people will pay a premium for this time of year. Off-season, or cusp-thereof prices can reduce considerably where operations remain open,” says VIPCA’s Blake. here

The Ohana was the second yacht on Below Deck. The yacht did not return for a second season because it was sold. That yacht is now called the Rhino. here

Below Deck, now in it’s third season has had three different super yachts. The yachts typically rents for thousands of dollars a week. The 2015 Below Deck yacht, the Eros charters for about $200,000 a week in the summer months. The Below Deck charter guests, however, get a deal. They can charter the Eros for about $35,000 a week.
“Every owner’s desires and objectives are different,” says Dan Lockyer, Dream Yacht’s general manager. “Our programs include a guaranteed income program, a performance/active yacht ownership program that can lower costs by applying specific tax laws, and a partnership program where you can own a particular yacht for 55 percent and can sail up to 12 weeks annually through a reciprocal owner use program.”
This is the route taken by Kessel, who purchased the two-year old 56-foot five-cabin Lagoon catamaran, Playtime, for $1.1 million rather than the same vessel priced new at $1.8 million. Kessel has Blankenhorn’s Charter Caribe manage the vessel. here
nature of a moving asset is still an unnerving risk for most banks, and the options to have a yacht financed, even as a business model, are very rare.
Ownership of a yacht without having constant maintenance and management concerns is what Charlie Hamilton sought when buying a yacht for his busy family, who all enjoyed spending time together on the water. A yacht as a small business, an investment, is what Brent Kessel desired, while also wanting to use the vessel vacationing with friends and family. Both men’s objectives are somewhat different. Yet Hamilton and Kessel’s solutions were the same. That is, to buy a yacht and put it in a charter fleet
How much should you tip on a private yacht charter? And how do you leave a tip for the crew? That’s something almost every yacht charter guest wonders. According to the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA) tipping guidelines, the general rule is to tip between 10% and 15% of your weekly charter fee, excluding running expenses and taxes. With that in mind, here are some other tipping “rule” for your charter: Let the captain decide who gets how much.
On your last day on your yacht, it’s customary to put your entire tip in an envelope and hand it directly to your captain. If your trip was wonderful (and why wouldn’t it be?), include a personal note, tell the captain how wonderful the crew was, and leave it to the captain’s discretion on how to split up the tip. Treat everyone equally. Many crew members are involved in the operation of your yacht, from stewardesses refreshing your cocktails, to the deckhands setting up the slide for you. While it may be tempting to leave forward-facing members a more generous tip, it’s not recommended. Remember, the crew works as a team, and it’s important to reward them as a team.
Tipping rules change by destination. As a general rule, a 10% to 15% tip is customary when chartering in the Mediterranean, while a 15% to 20% tip is more common in the Caribbean. more
