Installing a set of boat trailer guide ons is easy to do. Anyone with a little know-how and a few basic hand tools can install them. They make loading your boat much easier and a lot less stressful. Maybe you currently have guides ons and are having trouble with them bending or even breaking. It’s possible that you have the wrong style of guide on for your boat. I honestly believe if you select the correct guide on for the size of boat you have, and exercise a little caution when loading it, most of these issues can be avoided. Do yourself a favor, install your guide ons before the fishing season gets into full swing. You’ll love them! more

There are several factors that can play into this decision. What type of boat trailer do you have? The size and weight of your boat. How often and where do you typically use your boat. I honestly believe that each of these items has a situation associated with it that can be remedied by installing a set of guides. Let’s take a look at each one and see if you are a victim of one of them, or possibly a combination of all three potential issues. [links]

The boat trailer guide ons were the solution to all the above problems. It does this by lining the boat up on my keel rollers the first time, every time! It also gives me the flexibility to back the trailer that extra foot or two into the water, so I’m not having to put a lot of force on the bow hook and line. [links]

How much fuel did you burn? Were you fishing in the rain? Maybe there are three or four inches of water in the bottom of your boat. How steep is the ramp? Which part of the boat is going to come into contact with the trailer first? All of these things play a role in positioning the trailer and how much additional weight you’re trying to crank out of the water. [links]

Like trailers, not all boats are created equal either. You’ve got big boats and little boats. Heavy boats and light boats. The only thing they all have in common is getting them centered on a boat trailer in windy conditions or in stronger water currents.

I have a 18.5' Stratos 386XF fwith a bunk trailer. When the back end of the boat is loaded correctly and centered I only have about 1/2 inch clearance between the boat and the wheel wells. I constantly have to fight the back end wanting to drift from one side to the other while loading the boat. My first thought is that I have the trailer to far in the water and that allows the back end to float. To compensate for that I've tried leaving more of the bunks out of the water. the boat doesn't drift but it is incredibly hard to get the boat all the way up to the roller as most of the weight of the boat has to be winched up. it seems as though there is this exact "sweet spot" that I have to have the trailer but not all launches are at the same angle of course. more

I'm wondering if trailer guide ons installed at the rear of trailer would help. my concern is that I need the guide ons to hold the back of the boat centered but the beam of the boat is wider than the stearn. I assume that the guides will flex allowing room for the beam as it loads. I'm reaching out because there is a lot of experience on this message board. Is there anything I should know regarding this? I'm tired of keeping my fingers crossed hoping that when we pull the trailer out of the water that the boat doesn't drift off to one side. Guide-ons seem like the solution. [links]

I'm sorry to throw this question in the forum but I know there is a lot of knowledge here. I know most of you run larger boats but any information is helpful. Thanks.

QUESTIONS:
1. do they work for this situation?
2. will they damage/mark up the white fiberglass?
3. If they do work What type of guide-ons would you recommend? more

Boat Trailer Guide-ons or Loading Guides easily let you center your boat on your boat trailer during windy conditions, challenging currents or tough launch ramp conditions. Carpeted bunk board and roller guides are available in complete kits or loose parts. more

When ordering roller guide-ons or bunk guides, take into consideration the width and height dimensions that will allow a proper fit when your boat is on the trailer. [links]
