Crusoe, a retired GM executive lured out of retirement by Henry Ford II; George Walker, chief stylist and a Ford vice-president; Frank Hershey, chief stylist for Ford Division; Bill Boyer, designer Body Development Studio who became manager of Thunderbird Studio in spring of 1955, and Bill Burnett, chief engineer. The Ford Thunderbird began life in February 1953 in direct response to Chevrolet’s new sports car, the Corvette, which was publicly unveiled in prototype form just a month before. Under rapid development, the Thunderbird went from idea to prototype in about a year, being unveiled to the public at the Detroit Auto Show on February 20, 1954. [links]

In 1965 we meet Dr. Chicks son Dr. Jonathan “Jot” Comer and his wife Gwen at Great Lakes Naval Training Center where we were both serving as Dental officers. During the course of the next few years, we would meet and became friends with all associated with the Chickadee. As age took its course Dr. Kenny died and wife Clair wanted Jot to have the boat. It was hauled to Mooresville, IN where the families lived.

The 312ci V8 was rebuilt by Acceleration Engineering of Glenwood Springs, Colorado in May 2015, and work included replacement of the valves, guides, and springs, reconditioning the connecting rods, and boring and honing the cylinders. The four-barrel carburetor was rebuilt in 2014, and additional service during current ownership is said to have included replacement of the wiring harness along with the fuel tank and lines.
