wow I can't believe this old thread of mine is alive someplace still. I actually sold the boat in 2011 to finance a move to the Oregon Coast. But I can still answer this simple question.
Although I had a few problems getting there I would suggest an ignition upgrade to anyone running one of these old v6's, for the cost it pays for itself in gas the first season. Of course rebuilding the carb didn't hurt either [links]
ya should use marine rated peripherals on your engine. a auto distributor probably don't meet the criteria for spark suppression. if ya get a fuel leak, well, ya get the idea. boom. more
For sale is a classic runabout boat from 1968! It has a Buick 225 engine that recently had the carb rebuilt. It starts but has trouble staying running. It has a pretty well full tank of old gas (3 years) so that is probably the issue. I purchased a new boat, so this has to go. Comes with a trailer. . more

Have for sale my 1968 Evinrude Sportsman 155 very good boat last use last year needs a few things now fuel system is gone through carburetor rebuilt and a new battery the boat is a great running boat with The Dauntless Buick V6 has the pertronix electronic ignition swap so there's no points overall . Dang, the more I look at this thing the more I like it. The bidding is heavy so clearly i am not alone, but the bottom line is this boat will stand the test of time and be a cool boat to add to a collection. here
The seller is well known in the classic car hobby and the publisher and owner of Grassroots Motorsports and Classic Motorsports magazines, so he knows his stuff.
