Originally manufactured by Chrysler, Force Outboards were sold to Mercury parts and became among the first factory-installed engines in their Bayliners and other crafts. This concept caught on and soon other manufacturers were selling their boats equipped with outboards. These Force workhorses were phased out in the early 2000s, but many provide reliable power to recreational boats today.

Starters and alternators are integral parts of any Force outboard. Over time the starter and solenoids require replacement. Whether you own one of the early Chrysler Force Outboards or the later Mercury models, Wholesale Marine has the reliable starters and solenoids for your outboard. [links]

eric check and replace all burned up wires. a multimeter well be of great help. not sure if any components were fired but you surely would have popped your circuit breakers. make sure these are reset or replaced when I had a ground out. it toasted one of mine. lucky a scrap marine yard from had a used one since they aren't available as a part thou the bracket for holding them are. you can test each of your components as the manual says it'll save you money since you can know what's bad and good

I have replaced the bad wires. i saw the circuit breaker near the solenoid but figured it was not tripped because the engine was cranking over. Ill check it in a little bit and make sure. I can pull the wires to the coil packs off the terminal but im not sure whether to test them through the engine ground or another coil. im gonna grab my manual right now and look again. my dad said something about burning up my points. more

can't you test the terminals on the coil itself? not the terminal bar..disconnect the coil power, ground and the spark wire. you test ohms from the black to ground and red to spark wire connection. tell us what you read now

These two stators are identical, except for the battery charging output. If you have a voltage regulator with "5279" in the part number, you can use 174-9710K1 ( $239.00 ). If you only have a rectifier, you'll need to use 174-8778K1 ( $235.00 ), unless you upgrade the rectifier to a CDI #194-5279 voltage regulator.

If there is no spark noticed at the plug, remove it and replace it with a new one. If you still don’t get a spark, you want to check for a faulty stop switch. here

Disconnect the boat’s spark plug lead from the spark plug.

What you are left with is a weaker spark at the plug gap, which makes it more difficult to start the engine. If you regularly foul the spark plugs, this is one indication that your boat is suffering from a weak spark.

Normal spark plugs are dry and feature a grayish color. If the spark plug is wet, it might indicate that water has made its way into the fuel. here

It’s best to find the testing procedures from the engine manufacturer to ensure you are getting the proper readings for that exact style of coil. more
