I have a 1992 Mercruiser 4.3L engine that wasn't winterized. I have learned a valuable lesson here. Both exhaust manifolds were busted, a freeze plug under the motor mounts on each side was out. I ordered new exhaust manifolds, new freeze plugs, new spark plugs, wires, and replaced the sensor in the distributor and put it all back together. only to find that when I put her in the lake. water and oil began pumping out of the PCV hoses into the intake of the carb. OUCH !! I assume that I have a busted engine block. I did have water come out of the the two center spark plugs holes before it was put back together. more

I have decided to order a remanufactured long block engine.
The engine is in a 1992 Celebrity190 bowrider. 18'-7" long.

I have a friend with an engine stand, chain hoist, cherry picker, ect.. to remove the engine..so, heres my question.. what do I need to do to remove this engine? I plan to remove the bell housing bolts from the back of the block and remove the two motormounts.
Of course, I will have to disconnect any hoses, power, fuel lines ect.
Does the engine have to be shifted forward from the bell housing to disinguage the motor from thetransom? Are there any bolts from inside the bell housing that need to be removed in order to remove this engine?
I am mechanically inclined and I have the tools, but I have never removed a boat engine before.
Please , somebody help me out here.

Okay guys, after all these discussions about stalling boats and the need to check fuel filters, I figured I would check my fuel filters to be sure.
I have a 1992 4.3L V6 mercruiser engine, I removed the metal gauze filter in the carburettor and cleaned (it was very clean!). I then thought I would remove the fuel filter in the mechanical fuel pump and replace it.
On opening the fuel pump I discovered the fuel filter is not a paper catridge as I was expecting, but some form of pourous stone.. I have blown all over it with compressed air (and it looks clean) but I am not really sure if you clean this type of filter or just replace it (I have never seen a filter made of stone before!!).
How do I know if it needs replacing? I have not had any fuel problems with my boat, I was just cleaning the filters as a preventative measure..

The best thing you can do for your setup is to replace that filter, then install a water seperating fuel filter between the fuel pump and the fuel tank. Then you shouldn't have to worry about that one or the carb filter again.

Interesting. appears to be a chinese copy of the airtex and all the associated mounting parts. In the end that's a little less than I paid all told, but I also bought a $30 stainless fuel line from Merc. Let us know how the quality looks. Price is about even. [links]

I used the Airtex E11003 as the OEM part when I went through the same thing. Nice part is, you can go in and use the mounting and fuel line parts direct off Mercruiser parts lists to install it. It turned out great that way and the stainless steel line is heavier and better fitted than what I was making out of 3/8th steel brake line. Nice part with the Airtex is prices have dropped, I find them in the $60 range today. You look at a '93 and up Mercruiser V6 parts diagrams on OEM dealer sites like iBoats and can find all the fittings, mounting bracket, rubber o-ring isolator mounts, etc. Feels good in the end to have an OEM fuel system. here

I just built a Stihl MS361 chainsaw out of 100% after market parts from china. For a couple hundred I got a saw I could play porting games on and not risk $200 OEM piston/cylinder sets. Stuck on a big bore kit, all ported by me (first time I ever did that) and next going to swap in and fit the carburetor off a larger MS440 saw. Most of the parts are indistinguishable from the OEM Stihl parts of the 90's when the MS361 was last made. more

I am looking at a 1994 boat with a mercruiser 4.3 engine with about 500 hours on it. Most of the hours were at low rpm trolling speeds. I just thought I'd better check with the experts here as to the reliability of this engine. anything in particular I should watch for or check? Could running this engine hour after hour at low rpm's cause any problems? Sure hope I hear "man thats the best motor ever put in a boat"!

Ayuh. The 1 I'm sellin' this spring has about 1200hrs, mostly trollin'.
It still tests out Great on a compression test.
