I run my 50 on 50:1 - the manual does state that figure, it is a little smokey when trolling or doing your 6 knots but despite long periods of both I have never had any problems with the motor oiling up or getting difficult. Not even a little cough. here

I just did a search on the Yamaha site for an owners manual of your motor - if I found the right one it does say 100:1. more

If I could make a suggestion, I use more premium oils, Penrite or Yamalube and more recently BD50 which is awesome for smoke reduction. If it were me I would probably run 50:1 with a better quality oil to reduce smoke and carbon buildup. here

Ran them both at 50:1 (after recomended run in period) did not have a problem the worst you can do is oil up the plugs which in modern engines dosent pose a huge problem from my expierience.

I did hear a while back that the 100:1 was merely done in the smaller motors for emissions. not sure how true that is though. As a part of that it was suggested that 50:1 gave you far greater protection if the motor got hot due to a blockage or similar. [links]

What makes this motor any different from any other. Is this some kind of "special" motor that will tolerate a 100:1 mix, when almost every other one requires a 50:1 mix? I'd really like to know what makes this motor exempt from a 50:1 mix. And just saying because they "Recommend" it is not what I'm after. [links]

Howdy, MXB

Wrong. 50:1 will make it last longer. That is what I recommend you use.

Many of the engines recommended for 100:1 back in the 80s and early 90s exhibited internal corrosion from too little oil coating very corrosion-vulnerable parts. A few others tried at 100:1 simply blew up.

Unless you want to use an expen$ive $ynthetic like Am$oil, use 50:1.

Good luck.

Guys,
Yamaha doesn't just pick a number for the
fuel/oil ratio. When it says 100to1 thats what they mean.By the way they are not giving you
false info so you will blow up your engine and
have to buy a new one.Just because someone
mixes it at 50to1 and has not blown up their
motor up dosen't make it wright.
