Hello everyone, first time posting here. I have a 2014 9.9 HP 4-stroke that is having starting issues, it's turning over but not firing. First I cleaned out the carb and switched out the spark plugs. Still same thing, so then we checked for spark. We would get at most one spark from each plug, we then went through and checked to make sure there were no loose connections, didn't find anything in the engine is very clean so I don't think it could be salt filled up anywhere. Not really sure what the next step is, has anyone experienced this issue and been able to resolve it?
I found the service manual online and checked the ignition system, the only thing that was out of spec was the ignition coil. I purchased an OEM ignition coil and replaced it but I'm still having the same issue, the ohms on the primary of the ignition coil seem in spec however the secondary did not. it seems very rare for the ignition coils to go out so I'm not quite sure what to think of the brand new one being out of spec, but the fact that the primary is within spec makes me think that it's fine. Anyone have any input on this? more
Based on what I've read it seems like it might be the CDI, so I plan to order a CDI Monday and hope that solves a problem. more

Thats alright JB thanks for trying to help. As for the choke, I have NO controle over it what so ever. The only thing I can do to it is unplug it. Ive been thinking its the fuel pump my self. I pump the primer ball and it will fire over once. then nothing, check the primer ball and it has no preasure. Its just started doing this, before it had preasure on it like it should. I originaly thought it was acting like a fuel pump was going out. 125 bucks for a fuel pump thats no bigger than a D battery, and its all plastic. Nothings cheap these days. When I get the pump, Ill let you guys know if it fixed it here
Both plugs are new and gaped right. Im going to try replacing them agin tomorow. The fuel lines are clean and clear. The pump is pumping just fine. After takeing it off the motor and pumping it by hand you can feel it working when placeing your finger over the inlet and outlet. As far as checking with the choke, I cant because the choke is electric. Is there a chance that the choke may be sticking and not working causing these problems? Is there an easy way to check and see if the thermostat is working?

Thanks for the help

Howdy Metalmanzr2.

Sorry about that. I assumed that your '94 is similar to my '86 Yammy 9.9 4 stroke.

The carb enrichment system is a nightmare on mine. Sounds like yours is a serious improvement.

With this new info I would look into the fuel pump.

Good luck. here
