It can be more expensive to purchase and set up solar chargers as compared to AC options of the same category more

Power. Typically, the best solar battery charger for your trolling motor should come with a 100-W panel. This type can keep your batteries on without you having to break your bank.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to get a solar powered trolling motor. It’s either that it is impossible to develop one or technology hasn’t gone that far yet. Although it’s not an established fact, it seems that the currently available trolling motors draw more power than today’s solar panels are able to put out constantly. here

Battery conditioning. If you can spend some extra cash, go for a charger that can de-sulfate your battery. It can prolong your battery’s lifecycle.

A solar powered battery charger is great for environmentalists. You can carry one around when venturing into the waters to ensure that your excursion is fully enjoyable and safe. Just like any other electronic device, however, solar powered battery chargers have their own upsides and downsides. Their benefits include:

I would rethink the solar charging option. You would need a roof full of expensive solar panels for this to be feasible. more

I have a pontoon boat that stays in the water at the dock all summer. It is completely exposed to the sun. I recently installed a 24V trolling motor. To get 24 volts I hooked two 12V batteries in serial. This is working well and providing 12 volts to the boat's lights, gauges, ignition, etc on the main battery and 24 volts to the trolling motor off the second battery.

Leaving a battery low on charge is harmful and will shorten it's life. So even if that solar panel would eventually charge a battery after a few weeks, the battery would be damaged over time from being left in a discharged state. here

I want to hook up a solar charger so that I don't have to remove the batteries and take them home to charge them. How can I wire the solar charger up so that it charges both batteries? Here is the charger I'm thinking of purchasing. Amazon.com: Instapark? NEW All Black 10W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel with 12V Solar Charge Controller: Patio, Lawn & Garden

But electronics that are not considered sensitive are perfectly okay to connect directly to your solar panel. These include the trolling motor, as long as the current and power match.

The most powerful solar panels that you can get will provide up to 8 amps of energy. While this is a decent amount of power, it is nowhere near enough for a trolling motor. The majority of trolling motors will require a minimum of 40 amps to run, so it simply isn’t enough.

What are the benefits of using solar panels on trolling motors? This is a question customers often ask, and I’ll highlight why you should use solar to charge your trolling motor using solar panels:

The wattage of panels tends to increase with size. However, most boats come with insufficient space for mounting solar panels.

If you are intending to fully charge the batteries you may find you need more panel than will fit on the boat, depending on the capacity of the batteries.

Another option would be to replace the 12 Volt panel with a 24 Volt one, but for best results make sure it is a "true 24 Volt" panel with a Vmp around 35. Since the wiring here is very short and I'm certain the goal is to extend run time rather than fully charge the batteries even one of the GT panels with a Vmp of 30 would help.

I have a fishing boat with a 24 volt trolling motor. (2 12 volt batteries in series). I have a solar panel mounted on the boat with two sets of leads going to the two 12 volt batteries. I know I can hook them up like normal as long as I disconnect the positive to negative link between the two batteries making them 2 separate 12 volt batteries, but that defeat my goal. I want to keep the trolling motor batteries charged while I am out on the lake. How can I do this because hooking them up pos to pos and neg to neg doesn't work?

If I understand you correctly you have a Voltage difference problem: the batteries add up to 24 Volts but the panel is 12. Now whereas this problem can be overcome, the chances are the easiest way to do that is to buy another 12 Volt panel and put them in series like the batteries.
