The motors smaller than 35 HP need 1/4" more

Right, the ratchet, couldn’t remember the correct terminology. That thing is very hardened. Make sure you drill to the correct size…. an auto parts store will have the right drill bit. Otherwise you will pull the Heli Coil right out. here

There’s always the other option of using a wide-stance puller that can clamp the outside of the flywheel. here

I’ve never tried the "nuts and bolt" routine on a bigger motor
before….. guessing the bigger they are, the harder they "pop" off.
I have no "letter" drill bits for some reason. Looks like they are .257.
Will look it over in the AM. here

I have a decent harmonic balancer puller that I’ve had for 20 plus years,
that’s never failed me yet. Just wish OMC put beefier puller holes in
their bigger flywheels. I’ve been tightening the puller bolt a little more
several times today. Will see what happens in the morning.
Have you ever used a little heat on these flywheels?
Hate to smoke my pretty blue coils though. 😯

Wanted to pop off the flywheel on the RD Johnson,
but found out that one of the 1/4" x 20 puller bolt holes
is stripped out. Ran a tap through it to clean it up,
but it’s shot. Thought of extending the bolt in far
enough to put a nut on it, but the bolt hole appears
too close to the flywheel hub.
What are my options to get the flywheel off,
and repair the threads?

Have you been successful using a heli-coil on these flywheels?
Thanks.

What size bolt and thread count does it use? more

This is the common universal puller used by OMC for decades, even still used today by BRP.

My bolt head has finally stripped out enough where it needs to be replaced. I’ve already ground it down a few times to flatten the 6-way flats, but the bolt is just expired. All those V6’s with 150 ft-lbs of torque sitting for 40 years finally beat this puller bolt! (That, and other people over-torquing flywheel nuts…..)

You mean the center bolt? The part number for it is 307637, if you can find one. Really would be nice if you could, because of the flat end with a pilot point. Otherwise, I’ll sit here and guess it is a 3/4″ fine thread. I could go out to the shop and look, I suppose.
