If you were not running a ported prop you may be experiencing one malfunctioning. Malfunctioning ports allow air across the blades when you don't want it over them. like after the hole shot and when you are attempting to peg your speedometer. Air across the blades, decreases the density of the water and your prop slip jumps from something like 12-15 to something like 25-30 for a set of numbers. I have a 89' xp150 on a 89' cajun 19' tournament series bass boat, had a torque shift prop on it that went bad, the boat gps speed was 67 mph, I replaced the prop with a hustler 14?21 and now have a top speed of 46 mph and the prop acts like it slips bad as soon as the boat plains out, you can actually feel the load come off the engine and prop when it hits plain, any help or idea's to get back to the speed I was getting with the torque shift prop.

Quick check. Take the prop off and with some tape on the inside of the hole, fill the port holes with JB weld and finish smooth on the outside. After 24 hours, go run it. Come back with the results.
