dont know if it will work with your setup or not, but i also have 2 wire stator, two yellow wires(ac voltage)

radio shack sells a 25amp full wave bridge rectifier for $3.29 that is air cooled and is far superior to the OEM model.

i an many of the other "inline 6" guys run them, as i also run one on my evinrude.

and they wont rust either.

i dont know if it will work for you, but its worth checking out.

Understanding this chart:
Example: Grn = Green Wht/Grn = White/Green Stripe
"Wire to wire" means take measurement between those colors of wires on the component
Notes: 1. Read from Yellow Sleeve to Black Sleeve. Brown to Purple, White to Brown, Purple to White
Light green columns are reference readings for measured ohms of the specified component
Light yellow columns are reference readings for measured DVA output of specified component
While it's possible a component can be within specs and still be faulty, any component found not to be within specs should be replaced. more

All tilt/trim systems use a 12-volt DC reversing-type motor that has one green wire and one blue power wire. If you’re dealing with an older system, the motor may also have a third, black wire, which is used to provide ground to motors that don’t receive it through their casing. [links]

At that point, all phases of boat operation have degraded. You can’t trim your motor for better fuel economy or raise it to avoid damage when trailering. Here are some tips for tilt and trim troubleshooting.

The tilt and trim unit allows you to optimize the performance of your boat by adjusting the angle of the engine, which, in turn, adjusts the boat’s running surface. The ability to tilt and trim your engine improves boat performance under a wide variety of conditions from smoothing out a rough ride in heavy seas to reducing draft in shallower waters. While this article is geared toward the tilt and trim system for outboard engines, much of the information provided is pertinent when troubleshooting stern drives.

The time you most appreciate your motor’s tilt and trim feature is when it fails.

And if the motor fails to operate with power applied directly to the blue or green wire, the issue lies with the motor. If the motor operates, then the problem is a lack of power to the motor (faulty solenoid or relay, bad connections, etc.). Failed solenoids, relays and corrosion (at connections, relay sockets, quick-disconnect plugs, etc.) are some of the most common problems associated with tilt and trim system failure.

If the spark plug is working, disconnect the black/yellow wire and/or the black/white wire. These are the shorting and short circuit wires. Removing these allows you to troubleshoot the kill circuit. If the engine starts when these wires are disconnected, then the shorting system is faulty. If the engine does not start after disconnecting these wires, check the purple wire, which is the ignition switch wire, for damage and that it is secured properly. here

Mercury Marine is an international motor boat company based in Lake Forest, Illinois, providing motors for private, commercial and government craft. Mercury produces an extensive line of outboard motors. Like all mechanical equipment, Mercury motors can exhibit issues, ignition problems being some of the most worrisome. here

Many ignition problems stem from electrical issues, but there are a few general troubleshooting tasks you should perform. Check that there is plenty of gas in the gas tank and that all fluid levels are at the right level. Make sure that all wires are connected properly. If there is no start from the engine, there may be no spark present. Check that the spark plug for the engine is free of decay and is clean. If there is any water on the spark plug, check for leaks. here

Try disconnecting the black/yellow wire from the engine to check the kill circuit first. If the engine still does not start, change the white/green and the green/white stator wire. This will change the engine starting cylinder. If the problem persists in the new cylinder, the stator is bad and needs to be changed.
