Excellent, I just found a great little website with just that info. http://cdielectronics.com/ Lots of good info here just click their downloads tab and there it is. 2008 Cross reference, Troubleshooting guide, DVA Charts. and of course their catalog. Funny though no prices listed but you can call sales.
A picture of the back of the motor, starboard side, and flywheel and we can know for sure, even if someone has changed it.
I still have the 4 1/4 on mine. surface a high five with it. Seems to be standing up pretty well. Goes like a scalded dog. here
The red wires should be at battery voltage, and be trying to charge to 14.6 volts or so. more
If the rectifier part of the thing is working, and the regulator isn't, it's possible the tach would be good. The intermittent tach would make me look at grounding with a jaundiced eye. here
Find the green wire on the module and follow it back to see for sure which cyl coil it connects to, spark test that cyl to ensure it is not an ignition problem.
The oil alarm module checks oil level in the motor mounted tank, loosen the oil tank cap slightly, run the motor until the tank fills from the main tank so full that it begins to overflow, tighten the cap. The module also compares the signal from the oil pump rotation sensor to an ignition pulse from one cyl, often #4, when any difference it alarms.
I took the liberty of posting your question on iboats.com.
The intermittent horn is usually a signal of a problem in the oil injection system. Charge the battery and run the engine on premix fuel and oil to safely check out the problem. here
I'll let you know if we (you) get any answers. Lots of knowledgeable there too. more
Definitely add oil to the fuel just in case it is an oiling problem. The excess oil will only cause it to smoke a bit more than normal, rather that than risk hurting the motor. here
>yesterday. Does anyone know how to test the tach to see if it has gone.
Look for the rectifier. It is a small square component with 2 yellow
wires a grey wire and a red wire connected. Move the grey wire from
the terminal with the yellow wire to the other terminal with the
yellow wire and see if the Tach works if so replace the rectifier if
not check your harness for any breaks and have some one put a test
tach on the system.
