Yesterday we went over the first few steps in winterizing an Evinrude 9.9 outboard motor. We left off with flushing out the motor with cool water. After the motor has been flushed, allow the water to drain from the cooling system as the outboard sits upright.
Next, drain the lower unit and refill the unit with gear lubricant. Also use this time to inspect the propeller shaft for any cracks in the seal. Change the motor oil; Evinrude outboard oil is preferred, especially for four-stroke engines. Finally, disconnect the spark plugs, spray fogging oil into the ports, and bump the starter to evenly distribute the spray. Finally, disconnect the portable fuel tanks, the battery, and remove the propeller. Store everything neatly in a dry, secure location and your 9.9 Evinrude outboard motor should weather the winter perfectly. here
The opposite only means costly teardowns, which I’m glad I get to delay or avoid with the help of this product. It not only saves me money but plenty of time and effort, too. Sometimes, I even only do an overnight soak of one of my engine’s carburetors with this solution and get the same results.
Going back to what problems it solved, it pretty much took care of any ethanol problem I suddenly encountered when the usual signs showed up. I usually go the shock treatment route and pair it with Sea Foam when using this mix, and it’s always brought about solid results. The engine began running whisper-quiet and the air screens and filters were kept clean and working right as rain.
Ease of Use
Your purpose for using an additive on your boat’s 4-stroke outboard should be one of the main considerations when deciding the best type of product to go for. Do you wish to take care of problems usually associated with ethanol in fuel? Or do you simply want your gas to last longer and boost engine performance? Perhaps you want to decarbonize your boat?

With the motor disconnected, drain the fuel from the carburetor. Remove the cowling and disconnect the spark plug wires; be careful to note their location exactly so you'll be able to replace them correctly. Using an adjustable wrench, remove the spark plugs. Inject about 1 ounce of rust-preventive oil into each cylinder, and slowly crank the flywheel on the top of the motor to spread the oil over the entire cylinder surface. If your owner's manual recommends periodic lubricant changes for your motor's lower unit, remove the unit's top and bottom fill plugs and let the lubricant drain into a coffee can or other container. Replace the lubricant with the type recommended for your motor. Insert the lubricant applicator's nozzle into the bottom fill hole and squirt the lubricant into the gear case. When the lubricant starts to come out the top fill hole, replace the top plug; then remove the applicator nozzle and replace the bottom plug. Remove excess lubricant with a soft cloth. here
If you operate your motor in salt water, it must be thoroughly flushed to prevent corrosion. To flush the motor, use a freshwater flushing unit made to fit your motor. Attach the unit's fitting to the motor's cooling system as directed by the manufacturer; attach the coupling at the other end of the unit to a garden hose. Run the motor for several minutes at less than half throttle, exactly as directed, to remove all salt from the motor. more
After lubricating and inspecting the motor, soak a soft cloth in rust-preventive oil and squeeze it out. Rub the cloth over all exposed parts of the motor to coat them with oil and prevent corrosion. Then replace the cowling. here
Store the motor in a dry, dust-free place; cover it with a tarp to protect it from dirt. If the motor has a battery, remove the battery and store it separately; set it off the floor on a piece of scrap wood. Make sure the case is clean and the water in the cell is at the correct level.

Should not be any cooling system. Engine should be air cooled, last I remember but check this out to be sure.
Do not cover engine with any material that does not breath, I.E. plastic, etc. Tarp or canvas should be okay. Intent is not to trap moisture inside any cover used. Rusting will occur. [links]
Soap wash the entire engine and rinse clean, to ensure there is not salt water left on any parts, including prop, if ever used in salt water. [links]
Remove spark plug and add about 1/2 once of motor oil into cyclinder. Crank engine to stir oil on cyclinder walls and piston rings. Reinstall plug. [links]
