a) Barchan - These are crescentic or moon-shaped dunes which occur individually or in groups. They occur transversely to the wind, so that their horns thin out and become lower in the direction of the winds around the edges. The windward side is convex and gently-sloping while the leeward side. Being sheltered is concaves and steep.
1. Dunes : Dunes are in fact, hills of sand formed by the accumulation of sand and shaped by the movements of winds.
5. Mushroom Rock: The sandblasting effect cuts grooves and hollows on rock surface. The erosion is more near the base where friction is greatest. This produces rocks of mushroom shape. [links]
b) Seifs or longitudinal dunes - They are long narrow edges of sand, often over a hundred miles long lying parallel to the direction of the prevailing winds.
2. Reg or stony deserts: This is composed of extensive sheets of angular pebbles and gravels which the winds are not able to blow off. In Libya and Egypt the term serir is used; elsewhere in Africa, stony desert are called reg.
2. Yardangs: The hard and soft rocks of yardangs are vertical bends and are aligned in the direction of the prevailing winds. Wind abrasion excavates the bends of softer rocks into long, narrow corridors, separating the steep-sides over-hanging ridges of hard rocks, called yardangs. [links]

The Aeolian Islands provide an outstanding record of volcanic island-building and destruction, and ongoing volcanic phenomena. Studied since at least the 18th century, the islands have provided the science of vulcanology with examples of two types of eruption (Vulcanian and Strombolian) and thus have featured prominently in the education of geologists for more than 200 years. The site continues to enrich the field of vulcanology.

The Eolian Islands are the best-known and fashioned archipelago not only in Sicily, but also in Italy. They’re located about 20 km from the Sicilian coastline, well connected with the small town Milazzo. The whole archipelago is composed of 7 major volcanic islands plus cliffs and minor little island scattered around. The place is so charming and beautiful, that it even inspired the Greek mythology. Along with astonishing natural scenarios, the Eolian archipelago gifts interesting historic relics evoking archaic secrets.
The Caribbean islands were formed by the collision of two tectonic plates. One plate is slipping beneath the other, which results in land being pushed up through the water. There was also volcanic activity from the collision that helped form the islands.
Material pushed up through the ocean by volcanic, seismic and tectonic activity created the basic Caribbean islands. Over time, material built up so that it broke through the surface of the ocean to make the current physical islands. Since then, the two tectonic plates have continued to move, which created more islands within the group to form the modern Caribbean. here
The shape of the islands was created by more than simple volcanic and seismic activity. The constant movement of the plates dragged the roots of the islands, the magma flows that created volcanoes and other rising material, away from their original spot. This created the arc visible today in a range of the Caribbean islands. This movement created more islands, much like the Hawaiian islands were created by moving over a lava flow, but in a unique arc shape. The details of how the Caribbean islands were created and how the arc was formed are constantly being researched, so new information regularly comes to light.
