A 20 gallon air compressor is probably more than you’ll need to simply winterize an RV. If you’ve got one that large, it will work fine, but others use much smaller compressors. more

When storing your RV in a location where the temperature may drop below freezing, you’ll need to winterize your rig’s water lines. The winterization process removes water from the lines, preventing damage to valves, pipes, and faucets from water that expands and turns to ice.
You might also consider a hybrid winterization process. Open the low-point drains and faucets to let gravity remove most of the water. Use an air compressor to blow out the remaining water, and then add RV antifreeze to be sure your stored RV is prepared for below-freezing temperatures.
Inside the tank, that drain valve will be connected to a line that extends to the lowest section of the air tank. Air pressure in the tank will drive water out that line even though the drain valve is not at the bottom. No compressed air in that tank? Then it will not drain. Run the compressor until you see pressure rising on the tank gauge, then open that drain valve to void water.
Every compressed air tank will have a drain valve, since every compressor tank will have to be drained regularly. The drain will typically be located in the lowest part of the tank when the compressor is sitting in its designed position. The odd compressor tank may have a drain on the side of the tank.

Sometimes you will see an air compressor rated as having a specific number of CFM and then a specific number of SCFM. The CFM number will almost always be smaller than the SCFM because when the CFM is measured the values are determined while under about 90 psi of pressure.
The best way to explain the difference of these numbers is that CFM is usually applied to air compressors and SCFM is usually applied to air tools like the air spray paint gun that connects to the air compressor.
