Is the height/width issue a real pain, or something most folks cope with without too much drama? At 118" published beam, I see the 2858 as an extra 8 inches on each side compared to a legal width. I know people that tow that sort of width routinely without permit or signage. Not sure I would, but it would take a sharp law enforcement eye to peg it as a wide load until the tape measure is deployed. [links]

I'd love to hear from folks who have done this, as it's a direction I am heading, most likely. No questions about trailer capacity, bearing/brake and tire maintenance, nor truck capability. and that sort of thing. I think I have that part figure out. But I have zero experience with load width beyond 102" or anything higher than about 12 feet. Using an old Bayliner brochure from 1996, it looks like with radar arch and depending on trailer bunk height off the road, it's going to be in the ballpark of 14 feet (I'm thinking 13.5 or so, but I'd like to hear a real world dimension), which I think is a magic number with the DOT and bridge construction/utility lines, etc. here

Any insight about this sort of towing lifestyle would be appreciated. BTW, I'm envisioning more than just an annual trek from yard to launch ramp; I'd want to do some interstate travel. Thanks.

Out of the 3 boats I have owned, this is the largest one, and the first that I have not owned a trailer for. Without going into the state laws about oversize load permits in the state of VA I am just curious how these boats handle on a trailer.

I have towed a lot of things, but when it comes to boats and their butt heavy nature I would imagine a 30 footer with the weight of a 7.4 on the tail end is a different experience all together. more

I believe I read the boat weighs just over 6500lbs and the typical 30 foot boat trailer will weigh in around maybe 2000 or a little more.

We just couldn’t believe it, the Sydney region, like most of Australia, was in the middle of the worst drought in more than 100 years. But it seemed that as soon as we mentioned the word chopper, over came the clouds. And while it didn’t rain the bad light made the conditions lousy for photography.

Heading off down Berowra Creek and past the 4 knot zone, I opened the 285 up and the Bayliner Sequential Lift hull had her up and planing quickly. Her hull reacted instantly when I trimmed the sterndrive leg out, lifting the bow and allowing her to cruise along effortlessly at 22 knots pulling 3500rpm.

The Bayliner’s engine bay is below the aft cockpit sole. By pulling out the clip-in carpet and lifting the engine hatch on its gas-assisted struts, you can easily get at the engine for daily fluid checks and routine servicing.
