In a trailer for the reunion released Friday by Bravo, Rosbach can be seen walking off the set and telling host Andy Cohen, “I need a break.”
“Sorry is bulls—!” Gerber shouts back. here
Rosbach’s move comes amid a sea of tension for this season’s cast. Chief stewardess Kate Chastain has been clashing with chef Kevin Dobson and boson Ashton Pienaar all season, while Pienaar and his two male deckhands (Brian de Saint Pern and Tanner Sterback) have been at odds with female deckhand Rhylee Gerber.
Then, he doubled down when Abbi said leaving the show was what was best for her. "No, not the best thing for you in the end Abbi," he wrote. "The best thing you could have done is to have done what you committed to. It may not have been for you, but quitting before you finish your commitment is not good at all." Oof! here
Captain Lee didn't really hold back when it came to voicing his disappointment about Abbi's premature departure — neither on the show, nor on Twitter when the episode aired. more
Each week, Captain Lee's crew of Below Deck in Thailand has been keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. The Valor super yacht has welcomed a few familiar faces — returning HBIC Kate Chastain and deckhand-turned-bosun Ashton Pienaar — but for the most part, it's a whole new crew getting used to the lay of the land, or well, the sea.
Considering we picked up on a brief "her" moment when Ashton asked Lee for the new deckhand's CV, that narrows down the pool from last season to leave Alaska-based Tahiti second deckhand, Rhylee Gerber.
"There's gonna be a lot of things in life that she's just gonna bail on, and that tells me that Abbi's not cut out for yachting," he said in a one-on-one interview on the show. "Yachting's not for quitters." more
She’s back, bitches! Deckhand Rhylee Gerber will make her return to Below Deck as we learned at the end of this week’s episode and we asked her fellow yachties what they thought about being reunited with their fiery friend. After former deckhand Abbi Murphy got engaged and decided yachting in Thailand wasn’t where she wanted to be, Captain Lee made a cheery call to get her replacement there in two days. So it was Rhylee that packed her bags and headed off to the exotic location.
“I have a new deckhand coming,” Captain Lee tells bosun Ashton Pienaar, which is especially good news due to Brian’s recent knee injury. “Do you have a copy of her CV that I can have a look at?” he asks.
Ashton’s reaction? “You have to be fucking kidding me.” He goes on to say “I’m not ready for this,” and “I’m not gonna allow her to rock the boat,” which seems to be more of just a fun pun and less of a truth considering she’s already making comments about Brian such as “I’d fuck the shit out of Brian to where he doesn’t remember who Courtney is.” Yep, that’s the Rhylee we remember!
What’s not so different for her is the role of chief stew, considering she joined the Bravo series in Season 2 and she’s still around — not the case for any other crew member, save for Captain Lee Rosbach. Though this season in Thailand, she did hit a breaking point, declaring “Go find another chief stew, I quit,” in the dramatic trailer for Season 7. She’s seen walking away down a pier while instructing the camera crew “Don’t follow me,” and there’s another shot of her giving the middle finger before closing the door behind her – unusually rebellious behavior from the typically professional leader. When I ask if the camera crew listened to the instructions, she replies, “No. [They] sure don’t. Clearly, you have that footage because they’re following me.” But the sentiment was authentic, and she admits those are the moments she doesn’t even think will make it into the show. “I’m not doing it for TV, I’m like, stop filming, get away from me. We’re filmed 24/7.” In fact, she’s never before told production to stop filming or go away, but for Season 7? “I did it twice this year,” she says of the “exceptionally dramatic” season. To give some perspective of how the drama comes together on our screen, Chastain explained, “When you’re living it, you’re worried about charter guests. It doesn’t feel dramatic in the moment, it feels like an issue or a bummer or whatever. But then now that it’s about to come out, we’re like, oh my gosh, that happened and that happened. There’s a lot, a lot of drama.”
We met at the sophisticated Felice 56 at the Chambers Hotel to sip on drinks in a corner booth and discuss the new season of the Bravo series, her sixth so far. In a way, her years on yachts have prepared her for the move to the big city, which she did earlier this year. “The thing about New York apartments is they’re very small,” she says. “So anytime I feel like my very expensive, very small apartment is too small, I remember all the years I spent living on yachts and suddenly it feels like a mansion. I don’t have a bunk bed,” she says, looking on the bright side. “Also living on boats taught me how to use a small space smartly.” As soon as she says it, it’s not hard to picture Chastain living a total Carrie Bradshaw lifestyle and using her stove to store fancy shoes. “Other than that it’s pretty different,” she admits.
Chastain is still on the search for a soulmate, the romantic kind, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have some fun this season. “Tanner sure is cute,” she smiled, referring to the new deckhand who immediately had the hots for her. “He’s tall, he’s got that dark hair/light eyes which is a combo that’s hard to find.” She says that he’s got no ego on him and confirms that he does live by his GVO motto, which stands for Good Vibes Only. “As cheesy as that life motto is, it’s true for him. I mean, he’s probably not going to become the CEO of a company at any point in his life because he loves good vibes so much, but he’s a pleasure to be around. He comes from a large family, he’s the baby so he’s really good with large groups of people and making it feel like a family.” The only bump in the road came when he dropped the C-word: Cougar. While he’s ten years her junior, she appreciated the fact that “he genuinely wanted to hook up with me,” saying that “they clicked.” Chastain continued, “He’s got an old soul and a big…heart,” she said with a giggle.
