Boat trailer winches are an important part of any trailer and are designed to pull your boat or other vehicles onto the trailer. These boat winches come in either manual or electric varieties and Wholesale Marine has the right winch for your trailer. We carry trusted brands such as Fulton, Powerwinch, Trac Outdoors, and JIF Marine.

Wholesale Marine carries both manual and electric and there are advantages and disadvantages to both. Manual boat trailer winches are operated by turning a crank or lever to wind a cable around a spool to pull your boat out of the water. They are easy to operate and require little or no maintenance. However, they can be tiresome to operate, especially with heavy loads. Electric trailer winches use a motor to spool the wire or cable around the drum. Electric winches make getting your boat out of the water a little easier than with a manual winch but they have more parts that may require maintenance or upgrading. more

For those heavier loads, the Fulton Trailer Winch 3700lb is a heavy-duty option with two speeds, fast speed for a quicker pull in and a low speed for an increased mechanical advantage and less strain on the boat winch. For smaller applications, the JIF Trailer Winch 600lb is a great economical option. If you are looking for an electrical option, the high-power Powerwinch 12V Marine Boat Trailer Winch will make quick work of any trailering situation. It comes with a 10’ remote control cord and an emergency hand crank.

Select a winch based on the weight, not the length, of your boat. Don Casey, the BoatUS expert on all things nautical, advises readers to "Choose a winch that has a capacity rating of at least half the combined weight of your boat, motor and gear." Casey continues, "Most trailers have a standard winch assembly bolt pattern, so if your winch is inadequate, you can replace it easily." (See References 1) here

Estimate the amount of gear, gas, food and drinks you carry when you go boating. Few people carry 100 pounds of gear per person. Gasoline weighs 6.25 pounds per gallon; multiply the higher figure by the capacity of your gas tank to determine the weight of fuel: 10 gallon tank x 6.25 pounds per gallon = 62.5 pounds. Add 50 pounds of miscellaneous gear and the total is 112.5 pounds. (See References 2)

Add the weight of the trailer, the boat, the motor and the gear: 3,880 pounds + 112.5 pounds = 3,992.5 pounds. [links]
