In the hunt for winter tires.
The tires that came with the car are 215/55R16, but found a set of 4 winter tires 205/55R16. Is it okay to use the (4) 205 VS the "standard" 215? I realize that there will be a slight difference between the actual speed and speedometer. but a 1-2 km/h difference isn't going to make that much of a difference to me.
Hi, I've got a 2003 Vauxhall Vectra on steel wheels. I need to replace the front tyres. There seems to be much more choice and a massive saving if I drop the tyre width down slighlty.
Plus I believe it could help with MPG marginally. More of a fringe benefit, this isn't why I'm doing it. Equally I believe I may lose a bit of the handling but again I figure this is pretty marginal. I don't drive it erratically. I'm quite sedate.
I've heard conflicting rumours that I can and can't do this. I phoned a tyre place and they said I could do it but my tyres 'may rub'. Which seems odd seeing as I'm going narrower, not fatter.
