I went through a "rock" incident a couple of years ago. I replaced with Lexan and it still looks as good as the day I replaced it. You can find my original post on the product & on making and installing a Lexan windshield below:

2) remove the 4 screws at each corner of the windshield frame ( these screws go into a brackets on each side and I found that it was easiest to take out all 4) more

11) Spray the gasket the soapy water and position the frame with the legs up and with the gasket down position the Lexan so that one gasket side is against one leg and the bottom is parallel and slightly above with the frame (since the frame is curved and the Lexan is flat it will not yet be in the channel) bend the Lexan into place on the remaining leg while insuring that the bottom is inline with the frame channel. At this point the Lexan should be sitting above or partially in the frame channel , spray it down one more time with the soapy water and firmly and evenly press the Lexan into the channel. [links]

No fancy products needed when it comes to cleaning polycarbonate windshields! A mild dish soap or baby shampoo mixed with water does the trick.

Your polycarbonate windshield takes a beating. Just think of all the elements it comes in contact with through the course of a ride. Mud, dust, dirt, rocks, branches, and more—all of these things are inevitable when you’re hitting the trails, but none of them are good for your UTV windshield.

One way to extend the life of your polycarbonate windshield is to keep it out of the sun when you’re not riding. This can be done by parking it in a garage or using a windshield cover—or both, as seen here!

Another helpful tip is to flip to a clean section of cloth after every pass. This helps you avoid trapping dirt particles in your microfiber cloth. more

NEVER use a dry cloth, or your hands, to wipe off windshield; scratching will occur.

A clean UTV windshield is essential for your safety and enjoyment. If you have invested in a custom-fitted, high-quality polycarbonate windshield for your side by side, it’s imperative that you understand how to care for it properly. While your windshield may encounter tree branches, mud, rocks, dust, rain, snow, ice etc., it’s you who can cause the most damage without proper care. more

Road debris like rocks and other objects can create gouges, pits, and scratches in the windshield material. Therefore, many track use cars, like those used in NASCAR Ⓡ , have thin clear sheets of film over the windshield that protect the polycarbonate from damage. These films can be removed and replaced easily when they lose clarity. In long races, several layers of film may be applied. This allows pit crews to quickly remove the top layer during maintenance stops and restore visibility for the driver.

Secondly, polycarbonate is less “forgiving” than glass. The added strength of polycarbonate is not always a good thing. For example, in the event of a crash, if the occupant were to come unbelted and collide with the windshield, instead of the windshield breaking and the energy dissipating as with a glass windshield, the energy would instead be absorbed through the occupant’s body. Therefore, the chance for critical injury may be higher with polycarbonate windshields. more

The installation process is a bit different for polycarbonate car windows as well. Instead of the windshield being “glued” to the car with a urethane for glass windshield installations, polycarbonate windshields are generally secured to the pinchweld using countersunk screws. Although it makes for a secure fit, it doesn’t always make for a waterproof or air-tight installation. This isn’t as bothersome on a utilitarian race car, but would pose a major nuisance in a daily driver. more
