Call the shipping companies to get estimates on their boat shipping services. Calling in is more personable and it gives you the opportunity to ask questions. Any longstanding transporter will have responsive, well-educated customer service reps taking phone calls. They should even have the ability to customize your transport. Unfortunately, over the phone quotes are not always the honest cost of services. Until the boat and trailer are weighed and all shipping services are decided on, the transporter cannot give an exact cost.

If the engine’s density seems to bend the wooden slats of the skid you may want to nail down a decking on the skid, such as a heavy-duty sheet of ¾” plywood. On top of that, use both cushioning material and absorbent pads.
