French St. Martin boat rentals in are found in the marinas at Marigot and Anse Marcel on the north coast, and in Oyster Pond on the east coast. In Dutch St. Maarten, boat rentals and yacht charters are available primarily in Phillipsburg, Simpson Bay and Cole Bay.

There are races throughout the year and every year, in late February / early March, the island hosts the world-famous Heineken Regatta. Those who would enjoy an America’s Cup experience can try a shortened version, called the 12 Meter Challenge .

Deep-sea fishing is popular and charter rates usually include bait as well as instructions for the inexperienced. Half- or full-day trips (usually including lunch) are available. Mahi Mahi and Dorado are most plentiful October to June; for marlin, the months of May, June and July are best. For sailfish and white marlin, visit between August ad December; for wahoo, October through February are the best months. Fishing charters are available in the marina areas mentioned above, and elsewhere on the island.
