Epoxy resin adhesives will bond all woods, aluminum and glass well. It does not bond to Teflon, polyethylene, polypropylene, nylon, or Mylar. It bonds poorly to polyvinyl chloride, acrylic and polycarbonate plastics. The only way to tell if an epoxy will bond to a material is to try it.

This tape is the perfect companion for resin work. The epoxy resin does not adhere to this tape. more

If you need the characteristics of resin, Elmy’s right, hot glue probably wouldn’t be a great choice. They’re safe for casting materials that stay relatively cool, but hot glue might melt or distort the mold. Large, solid castings of hot glue will suffer from the effects of shrinkage. more

Typically, traditional epoxy doesn’t adhere well to many plastics due to a lack of surface texture for a mechanical bond. With some plastics, the epoxy forms beads on the surface like water on a waxed finish. But with proper surface preparation, it is possible to achieve excellent adhesion to many plastics. more

Fiberglass resins will not stick to woods that have been treated. They only stick to untreated, clean, dry wood. Redwood is not only usually treated, but it also contains a waxy substance prohibiting adhesion. here

Your resin is too hot. While resin generates heat when mixed with hardener, too much heat can melt the mold, causing the resin to stick. more

When cured, the resin will create a strong bond to the mirrors, so there is no need to glue the mirrors first.

I scraped some of the tape off with my chisel, so I just put some new tape on it and its good to go again. Chuck me a couple of times to get it right, but its, definitely very efficient and reusable now. here

I wanted a 16 inch diameter mold, so itll fit over the bed of my lathe, and all I needed to do was just trim up the board a little bit and cut the circle. Im using my bandsaw circle. Cutting jig with double-sided stick tape and it makes it so I dont have to drill any holes in the piece.

Im, adding one and a half inch pan head screws and pre drilling the holes. You definitely want to pre-drill the hole with this melamine board and if you can use fine screws, rather than course.

So if youre interested in making some molds, this is a great way to do it, and it only takes a few minutes to undo the screws clean it up, put it back together and put a bead of silicone inside actually starting to make Another one, so I can have two going. here

Several different materials will work for making resin molds as in HDPE, HTP, large cups, small cups, recycled items and silicone molds some materials dont work. It all depends on one-time use or multiple uses, as in this melamine board, which Im going to use for my large round resin mold.
