An island has popped into existence, with three new biomes, more monsters and new resources. It also replaces the Sanity meter with an Enlightenment meter, though the effects are similar. The more enlightened you are, the the more the world around you will start to shift, and previously invisible creatures will start to appear.

The singleplayer version's Shipwrecked DLC let players sail around maps peppered with little islands, but the mode has yet to make its way over to Don't Starve Together. Turn of Tides is a bit different, as it's not a separate mode and takes place on the regular map, though it has a few additions. [links]

Don't Starve Together, Klei's charismatic co-op survival game, is heading out to sea in the Turn of Tides update. You'll be able to build a rickety boat that's roomy enough for friends. Turn of Tides is the first in a series of game updates, collectively titled 'Return of Them', and you can start sailing now.

To reach the island, you'll need to craft a boat using the new crafting menu. It doesn't look like much, but it will fit all your friends. You'll be able to upgrade it, too, and place things like chests and cooking stations, eventually turning it into a little mobile base. If you play during the next fortnight, you'll also get a nice new sail to spruce up your sad boat. more

Different boats will give different map reveal bonuses. Wearing a Pirate Hat increases this bonus by 25%. Boats also have “Hit Immunity” that protects the player from being stun-locked. [links]

A variety of boats can be constructed in Shipwrecked DLC for exploring the Ocean biomes and moving between islands. They may also be found abandoned in the Ocean (possibly even with attached items). The boats lose durability over time when moving on water. The rate of the loss can be reduced by wearing a Captain Hat. The durability is also lost when the boat hits small Waves in directions other than the wave is traveling, and when hitting large Waves, regardless of the direction. While the player is on a boat, attacks against the player do not reduce Health, instead the boat loses durability. When the boat durability hits 0, the player drowns, unless they are wearing a Life Jacket.

Boats can be repaired using Boat Repair Kits or sailing near a Sea Yard. Continuously repairing a boat requires more resources than using a Boat until it is heavily damaged, breaking it down to get half the resources back, and building a new one. However, waiting until the boat has been heavily damaged increases the risk for an unexpected attack or a large Wave to break the boat. here

In the Hamlet DLC, boats can be used to traverse the Lily Pond biome. here

Inspecting a boat without riding it allows the player to see the boat's durability, equip attachments if the boat allows it, and access its inventory in the case of a Cargo Boat and Encrusted Boat. All boats, except the Surfboard, can be Hammered to get back half of the resources used to create it, regardless of its durability. Any attached items will be dropped.

The Boat Kit is a craftable Item in the Seafaring Tab, exclusive to Don't Starve Together, and introduced in Return of Them. It creates a Boat when placed on the Ocean.

Being made of wood, the boat itself is flammable and can catch fire (either from placing an open Campfire on it, or having the fire spread to other onboard flammable items), causing heavy damage to the boat depending on how many current segments are currently in flames (there are 5 segments total, the center, and 4 on each side). Contained fires, such as a Firepit or Scaled Furnace, can be safely placed and used on the boat. [links]

When reaches 0 the boat sinks. It leaves 4 Boards and half of the materials used to create all the structures on the boat. All Players drown and reappear on the nearest coast. They lose 25% of their max health (similar to when being ressurected by Telltale Heart), -25 Hunger, -25 Sanity, gain 100% Wetness and drop half of their inventory slots into the water. WX-78 loses 40% of its max health and -50 sanity. Woodie loses -50 hunger in normal form and -100 Beaverness in Werebeaver form. Wurt does not lose any stats, does not drop items, and does not receive health penalty, but gets 50 wetness. Each Boat has one plank, which can be used to abandon ship with the same effects as drowning. [links]
