Do not run radial and bias ply. VERY DANGEROUS. The radial tires tend to grab and the bias tires want to slide. If you were to do so on a vehicle, it can easily cause accidents as one end grips and the other end slips. [links]

Thanks guys. Trailer shop agreed that there is very little to adjust with these type of trailer. I ordered a new wheel and tire a week or so ago, but now I'm going to return it and swap the rears out for radials. I did run a string on each side of the frame and take some measurements. See pic for measurements. I did not jack up the trailer when I did it because I was in a pinch for time as I have family in town at the moment.

Find a place in the front of the trailer that is in the center, such as the threads on the underside of the hitch locking lever. Measure to the same spots from there to the U-Bolts on the front axle, both sides. These should be the same number or VERY close. Then do the same to the rear axle. As Lou pointed out, you have to think your front axle is square or your bias ply tires would be wearing. See if the axles are parallel to each other end to end. more

Yep, usually it means your axle is out of alignment. It the other axle is tracking O.K. align the rear axle to the front axle. If that doesn't help you may need to have it professional aligned, any good trailer dealer should be able to align it. more

What you could do is, a tire rotation and see if the tire that gets placed in the LR position begins to wear as quickly as this one did. BUT. for sure get the tire pressure checked. Even then, if the tire pressure is correct but the center of the tire is elevated above the outside edges, then let some air out. more

I've posted some pics on another forum where they believe there's an alignment issue. We ran her up to a local trailer shop yesterday and they blamed it on the tight turns and the cheap, stock bias ply tires.

BUT I could see that the springs were not mounted the same on both sides! there is a clasp that holds the leafs together on one side of the springs. and the mount bolt that's also holds the leafs together is NOT in the center. well I see that the clasps are close to each other on one side IE the clasp are both close to the equalizer. on the other side both clasp were towards the front. thus there is a 3/8th" difference in the center to center dimensions of the axles from one side to the other. here

here is each side , you can see the clasp should be going the same way for the spring to be mounted the same front and back axle. on one side they are close to each other. don't know how I missed that. I think I had asked here is it matter if the short end was on the front or the back, when the springs are mounted. since the spring is not symmetrical. [links]

Measure from center of hub to center of hub on each side. They should be the same.

For years we have trailered our boat across australia to Exmouth WA. I have had both axels inverted and bent with the aid of a 30ton press by Carter Westco at Blacktown in Sydney. And yet I still get get terble inside camber to all four tyres.I have replaced both rocker arms all bushes on allthe leaf springs before each trip. by the time we have covered 11,000 -12000km back to Sydney they are catus. I have owned the trailer since new 1993 and is in A1 condition. The trailer is rated at 2000kg all up. I have put the boat over the weigh bridge fully loaded on the last trip = 1870kg. Its a Coaster boat Trailer.Could it just be the Kenda 6 x 900 tyers that are no good? I have never blowen a tyre on these trips to the West. I run 55psi in the tyres and travel at 100kph with the tug. here

We have both our hard floor camper as well as a tandem trailer with our boat. What I would like to know is, do the caravans set up with tandem bogies suffer from tire wear/ bad camber like our boat trailer. Or are they engineered more up market? [links]

As we get greyer in years to come we will sell both. Too buy (Lambie) the other half, wants the Loo & Shower. Lambie has her eyes on a Corrimal Element tandem job and I want to know if we are going to have the same issues in the future. [links]
