Also seemingly unrelated, I used to use 5W-30 oil. But now switched to 5W-20 since the recommendation changed. here
This happened after (seemingly unrelated) I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, drain plug, and PCV valve grommet. I need to change the PCV valve too, but I had to order one. Before this change, the car shifted fine. more
If your engine revs up as you press down on the accelerator but your vehicle doesn’t accelerate as per usual or as you would expect, it’s a troublesome sign that can lead to a full-blown transmission failure. more
Transmission slipping, or gears slipping, is a common transmission problem and a real cause for concern. Here’s what you need to know.
The primary function of your vehicle’s transmission and related systems, also known as the driveline or drivetrain, is to couple the engine which produces power to the wheels. here
Transmission slipping, or gears slipping, is one of the most common transmission problems on both manual and automatic transmissions. If you’re experiencing this when you or your vehicle changes gears, not only is it an indication transmission failure is on the horizon, it’s also a real safety risk to you when you’re on the road. The basic requirement of a combustion engine is the correct flow of air. If the air is contaminated with impurities or the airflow is restricted it results in acceleration problems. [links]
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve (EGR valve) may be stuck open letting too much exhaust into the system. This throws the sensors off reducing the amount of oxygen into the cylinder that leads to less power. A closed EGR valve does not affect the power. It only affects the engine acceleration if it causes the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to place the car in a limp mode. more
A misaligned timing belt is a VIP on the list of mechanical parts because if it is misaligned even by one tooth and the tension is incorrect – it can cause some serious acceleration issues.
Mechanical Problems
Vacuum hoses affect the behavior of many car components such as fuel pressure regulator, brake booster, EGR valve, etc. If there is a leak in these hoses the connected component will behave errantly and erratically.
I have similar problem. I drove my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder to Wal-Mart, it was fine but making my way home. My MPH, oil gauge, gas gauge all starts to flicker and back and forth motion while moving slow. The alternator, battery, and starter are all replaced and brand new. I did smell some electrical burning. Help me please.
Hi, I have a question about my 2009 nissan maxima, it lags when I accelerate, is this the same problem?
Hi, just went through a similar problem with a 06 Sentre were the accelerator would have zero response when in Drive or Reverse.
