Again, the sheer number of ferries coming across 24 different routes both in New Zealand, and the surrounding islands, means that there is not one singular ferry duration, but instead many, depending not only on what route you are taking, but also which ferry operator you are travelling with. Ferry durations can last from anywhere between 25 minutes, to 2 hours, to 5 hours, depending on the route. here

With over 891 ferries running every week not only throughout New Zealand, but from many of the surrounding Islands, it is entirely impossible for there to be one set ferry schedule. Indeed, in the Cook Strait alone, there are around 17 ferries running daily, and there are up to 94 ferries per day running from Waiheke Island to 3 different ports across New Zealand. Whilst there is not a specific ferry schedule available, we will always provide you with the most relevant information, so you can find the best ferry crossing for you.

My brother and I took great pleasure in going round the decks and counting the number of passengers leaning over the side throwing up. Ah the pleasures of youth. [links]

The only crossings by ship now are by the occassional cruise liner but as part of a larger tour. Or if you are lucky you may be able to score a berth on a freighter. Some take paying passengers. (though again usually it is part of a longer excursion). [links]
