Under acceleration, the vehicle should accelerate smoothly no matter how hard or light the gas pedal is depressed. If the Ford will not accelerate smoothly, but instead jerks and jumps under acceleration, your fuel pressure regulator should be inspected. more

A faulty fuel pressure regulator can also be to blame for a sudden decrease in fuel mileage. [links]

A poor fuel pressure regulator can also cause your Ford to stall while idling or driving. While it will most likely occur while idling, it is not unheard of for the car to stall while you are driving down the road. If the fuel pressure regulator is not maintaining exact fuel pressure while the engine is running, it can cause the engine to run rich or lean, and in the event it goes too far in either direction, the engine will stall out due to an inability to properly burn the air/fuel mixture. Gasoline needs air to burn. In an overly rich scenario, there is not enough air for the mixture to achieve combustion; if there is too little air, the combustion will also fail to occur. Since the fuel pressure regulator is given specific air/fuel mixture directions from the PCM, it should always maintain the proper mixture. [links]

I have a 1988 Ford F-350 with an EFI 460 engine. It will start, run about 2 seconds, then dies. Will not re-start, seems to be flooding at this point. Wait a couple of hours, it will start, run a couple of seconds, die again. I have replaced the high pressure fuel pump, fuel pressure is at about 43 PSI key on, engine off. New TPI on distributor, no help. New fuel pump relay, no help. As a note, before this problem started, the fuel pumps would come on when the key was turned on, run a couple of seconds, shut off if you didn't start the truck. they now run all the time when the key is in the on position. If anyone can give any insight into what the problem may be, drop me an e-mail or post an answer here. My Ford dually is a large paperweight that my wife is growing annoyed with fast!!

I was having such kind of problems with my f250 88, (An 5.8 Lts.), so if the new fuel pump do not stop, it may implied that the FUEL PRESURE REGULATOR is gone. All the fuel is passing to the tank again, you would have near zero presure now. Check again the fuel presure and replace FPR. If not, Ford use to have 2 fuel pump; One in the tank that send AMOUNT of fuel under low presure, and the other, (the one you replace), for high presure. If the primary is not sending suficient amount, the second will not stop asking for more, so you wil have a few seconds of propper fuel in the engine. Got it?

No other idea for now. Good luck.

Spark plugs usually come in around $7-15 each. It adds a little extra cost considering the Ford 6.2 engine uses 16 spark plugs. Nonetheless, this is a job most can knock out for $100-150. Add in another $50-150 if you plan to go to a repair shop. [links]

As such, we believe the Ford 6.2L V8 is an excellent engine all-around. It doesn’t offer quite the same performance as the 6.7 Power Stroke diesel. However, the 6.2 V8 comes without the $10,000+ increase in price and is still a solid, reliable engine.

Sometimes a shorter oil change interval (OCI) can help reduce oil consumption. As oil ages it becomes thinner, which can increase the likelihood of oil blow-by and consumption. Excess idling ties into that as it can shorter the life of oil; mileage isn’t everything when it comes to useful oil life for the 6.2L engine. Servicing the PCV system or addressing any oil leaks may also help.

Sometimes, the solution can be as simple as replacing a valve cover gasket, which is pretty simple to remove and install, even if you have no prior experience doing so.
