On the whole there are more exciting grandstands from which to watch in Abu Dhabi, but for keen photographers this stand has some obvious advantages as cars slow right down, and there’s a chance for some very nice head-on shots if you’re positioned at the exit to the hairpin.

From the high speed straight that lines the stand to this combination of corners the Marina Grandstand is a an excellent point to see Formula 1 cars under various conditions, even if its not the best grandstand at Yas Marina. more

From the left of the stand as you face the track, your view of the turn-in to turn 8 is distant and its not the best place to see overtakes. Watching the more distant section of track, turns 20 and 21, you’re well placed to enjoy this and there is an an exciting view down the grid and of some pit boxes. here

The lack of a free to roam day where fans can watch from any grandstand regardless of what ticket they have is definitely a downside. Other than that grandstands are very desirable, often having views over multiple corners and there are none that are weak.

Following the WMSC’s meeting in Doha it has also been decided there will be no standing restarts behind the safety car. The F1 commission voted in the idea earlier this year but, following a thorough review of the potential difficulties, that too has been axed. here

But with seven laps to go Rosberg was seventh and, with his car problems only worsening, he was asked by his race engineer if he wanted to retire. Despite the hopelessness of the situation, and the fact he was lapped by his team-mate, Rosberg manfully soldiered to the finish and came home 14th. here

What happened in Qualifying?
Mercedes front-row lockouts have rarely been in doubt this season, and that was certainly the case in 2014 when the Silver Arrows were almost untouchable in the first year of F1's new hybrid engine era. here

Hamilton constantly reaffirmed his desire to win this race, even though second place would have been good enough for him to capture the world title. His start to this Grand Prix was absolutely sensational and confirmed that desire, as he surged past Rosberg into the lead. more
