I am looking at switching out my Garmin 740s for a Garmin 7610xsv. I am in doubt about the best Transducer to select along with it - either the Garmin GT51M-TM versus GT50M-TM.
I don't deep drop and button fish in ranges from 20' (Patch reefs) to 250'.
I am not worried about the price difference, but want the best possible transom mount transducer with the most flexibility. more
The Garmin GT51M-TM appears to be the high end transducer and the one I am leaning towards, but I not entirely clear on what I will lose at less depth compared to the GT50M-TM.
Here is the info for the GT51M:
Transom Mount DownVü/SideVü 500 W (CHIRP 260/455 kHz) Traditional 600 W (Mid-band CHIRP 80-160 kHz) Transducer here
Just put in a NMEA 2000 backbone and plug both in. Then all you have to do is select either of the transducers from the menu screen. No cable swapping needed.
Instead of an echomap 94sv with the GT51..I would have suggested a 943xv and the GT51 as a very good option. [links]

What head unit are you going to run these through? Please let us know what you think of the two. I have an EchoMaps 94SV and a UHD 94SV. The 94sv came with a GT51 and UHD came with the GT54. Going to start out just running the GT51 since it is already installed and the second unit will be used for displaying engine and navigation info. [links]
The GT54 Ultra High-Definition all-in-one transducer provides image details so clear and precise, you can actually see fish hanging just off branches of submerged trees, brush and rocks. You can see size differences between bigger and smaller fish and even see individual fish swimming in bait balls. You get the highest resolution ClearVü and SideVü scanning sonar images available plus amazingly clear high wide CHIRP traditional sonar 1 — all in one transducer.
77/200 kHz sonar transmits a single ping at either 77 or 200 kHz
Notice: compatible with GPSMAP® 8400xsv/8600xsv and ECHOMAP™ Ultra chartplotter/sonar combos
Transom Mount: These are attached to the back (transom) of a boat hull. Alternatively, use the included equipment to install on a trolling motor.
260/455 kHz ClearVü is ideal for deeper water, 1000' Max Depth scanning sonar
Ultra-High Deffinition 1200 kHz SideVü is ideal for 30' max depth [links]
