DAY 6, Wednesday - Visit Amalfi & Furore
Spend a full day at leisure or travel to the town of Amalfi, home to the famous Limoncello liqueur, surrounded by cliffs and stunning coastal scenery. This UNESCO World Heritage Site also produces bambagina, a thick handmade paper used worldwide. Learn more about this unique skill at the Museo della Carta. After enjoying the sites and sounds of this popular town, continue to Furore, a little-known destination located between Amalfi and Positano. Due to its geographical position among the mountains and a central fjord, this hidden town is a delightful surprise. Its open-air museum of murals is a highlight but the main attraction is the dramatic 'Fiordo' or fjord. View a cluster of old fishermen houses cling to the side of the rocky gorge
Drive Time: 3 hours from Sorrento

DAY 3, Sunday - Drive to Pompeii and Herculaneum
Spend a full day at leisure in Amalfi or drive to Pompeii to visit the ruins of this extraordinarily well preserved Roman city. The excavated town offers a glimpse of everyday Roman life in the 1st century before an eruption of Mount Vesuvius buried Pompeii in 79 AD. Stroll the ancient streets and see Roman baths, the Temples of Apollo and Jupiter, and the Forum. Compliment the tour by visiting Herculaneum (Ercolano), a town destroyed along with Pompeii during Mt. Vesuvius' eruption. Primarily a residential town, Herculaneum was filled with villas of wealthy Romans, which can be seen in their preserved state

Three days spent on Italy's Amalfi Coast may not be enough time for an immersive visit, but it certainly is enough time to visit a few of the pretty cities along the peninsula, take a boat ride in the Tyrrhenian Sea, lounge on an idyllic beach, and enjoy several great meals al fresco—all with spellbinding sea views.

1 p.m.: From Positano's main pier, look for the small boat and the sign for Da Adolfo. Take the 5-minute boat ride to this charming—and affordable, for the Amalfi Coast—seaside restaurant, where swimsuits and shorts are perfectly acceptable attire. An al fresco lunch here is a highlight of any trip to the Amalfi Coast, and a great way to spend part of your first day. Reservations are recommended but are accepted only by phone. here

This itinerary for the Amalfi Coast assumes that you'll be arriving from Naples or Sorrento on the morning of your first day. It includes overnights in two different towns, in order to give you a broader taste of the character of this enticing coast. Most of the activities are best suited for warm weather, but there are a few alternatives should you visit in the cooler months.

10 a.m.: Arrive in Positano, your first stop along the Amalfi Coast. If you're traveling from Naples, take the train to Sorrento, then either a SITA bus or a ferry to Positano. Buses are slow, but inexpensive, although they can get very crowded in the high season months of July and August. Ferries are costlier but faster, and must be reserved in advance, especially in the summertime.
