KENNEBUNK, Maine — Former President George H.W. Bush's 38-foot boat, Fidelity IV, ran aground on the middle of a popular public beach on Monday evening, after the vessel was thrown off course by a series of swells, according to Jim Appleby, the former president's personal aide.
Appleby said the boat was having trouble steering through heavy fog before the incident occurred.
“I wouldn't say it's good as new,” he concluded. [links]
Bush hooked up Polinger’s boat — named Thank You Norman after her father, who left her money to buy it — and towed her to the jetty in Wells Harbor. The assistant Wells harbor master, Charlie Bashaw, met them and towed the Thank You Norman the rest of the way into the harbor.
