Well I decided to clean the carbs myself instead of paying the $900+ to have the shop do it. No big deal, all went well until I came to removing the idle mixture screws so I can give the carbs a good soaking. Not knowing then what I know now about how to remove the caps. I broken them all.
What I ended up doing after I got the screws out was to file a slot across the head so I can adjust with a flat head. What I don't know is what the factory settings are suppose to be.
Can someone help with this?
It's a 2006 90 4-stoke

From what I've read, the caps are glued on, if you use a soldering iron to melt the glue the caps can be removed.
Once you get the caps off, please let me know what each of your screws were set at by counting the turns in.

The best part of this short video is the concise DIAGNOSIS of idle jet problems. Ari details the classic symptoms of this very vexing issue. As usual, the correct diagnosis is half the battle!

Problem with float valve operation / setting restricting flow of fuel into carbs. They can be installed incorrectly upside down! [links]

These possibilities must be systematically eliminated one-at-a-time until the cause is isolated. here

I have removed the brass jet screw and the jets looks spick & span, I even ran a nylon poker through the bottom hole. more

Outboard won't idle correctly, dang it. At first motor would not idle unless choke was pulled. I adjusted the set screw and motor idled just fine, for the day anyway. Next time I took it out same issue, won't ideal. I played with the set screw and the motor either idle way too fast or not enough to keep motor running in neutral . I would like to remove the carb and give it a cleaning but getting to the inside bolt in the carb/air intake #17 in this diagram ( http://www.**********/parts/search/. 07 and Later/BF8AK0 LA /CARBURETOR/parts.html ) Has proven difficult. more

1. Do I have to remove the Cam Pulley Assembly to get to that inside carb bolt #17bolt? If so how difficult is that? [links]

Worst case, just pull the carb and tear it down, they are very simple. more

You should not need to adjust the throttle plate screw unless the idle is too high after adjusting the idle mixture. [links]

Remove the idle mixture needle screw and blow carb spray into the orifice. Most small engine carbs do not have adjustable air bleeds for the idle circuit, the needle screw is the idle fuel "jet". If you back it out, the orifice is larger and the engine runs richer at idle. Shoot some compressed air through before replacing the needle screw. here
