The most common cause is “excess flow” releasing a unrestricted, full flow of gas from the tank. There is an internal spring operated safety seat or seal that will partially close the flow when the propane is exiting the tank faster than it should normally.
Reset the excess flow safety by turning the tank valve off and then disconnecting the regulator. If you are using a grill, set all of the burner knobs to “High” and wait for a minute. Turn the burner knobs off and connect the regulator and open the tank valve slowly.
Spray down the valve with some WD40. While it penetrates, dig 2 holes next to each other. One for u, one for the tank. Bury the tank with just the valve sticking out pack the dirt around it.
A propane tank valve will vent built-up pressure that can result as the gas expands. The valves will also prevent the overfilling of the tank. There are several types of valves on the market, and each has specific uses. Sometimes it is necessary to reset the propane tank valve and here are the steps to show you how.
If you decide to check these on your own, you will need a manual for the tank itself as each propane tank may be slightly different. In most tanks, you can release the pressure by using the wrench to loosen the nut surrounding the valve. From here you will be able to reset if this is the issue. here
A spring valve is a relief valve that is held into place by a powerful spring. The pressure inside the tank should be lower than the pressure on the spring. When the pressure builds too much, the spring compresses and the excess gas is vented. If this needs to be replaced it's best to call a professional since the springs need to be calibrated correctly in order to work. here
Of course, if you notice evidence of damage or excessive wear, such as dents, bulges, or cracks, or if you notice the valve isn’t working correctly, take the tank to your local Ferrellgas dealer for inspection. Although these tanks are certified for 10-12 years of use, misuse or neglect can shorten their useful life.
Each tank also comes stamped with a unique identification, similar to those stamped onto vehicles. This helps the United States Department of Transportation and propane dealers to effectively track and keep safety records for each tank in circulation. here
Additional markings indicate the empty weight of the cylinder, listed as “TW.” This is helpful if you want to weigh the tank to gauge how much propane is left available for use. The stamp “WC” indicates the water storage capacity, which helps dealers know the precise amount of propane that can be safely stored inside the tank. here
It’s also not uncommon to see a requalifier’s identification stamped into the handle area of your tank. Once you know the manufacture or recertification date, you’ll be able to determine how close the tank is to reaching its expiration date. [links]
A propane tank’s recertification date is most often indicated by a letter instead of numbers. The letters A, B, C, and D, correspond with a quarter of the calendar year. The letter “A” would mean the tank had been recertified in January, February, or March, followed by the two numbers of the year. In this case, a tank stamped with “A 20” would indicate the first quarter of 2020. Additional letters indicate the type of recertification, which helps determine the frequency of follow up inspections. [links]

Simply slide the end with the black collar into place, while being sure to hold it straight. Then tighten the collar onto the tank. Holding the gauge straight is important here. All modern propane tanks have a safety built into the valve to prevent gas leaks, typically you will hear a click when the gauge is properly tightened down. Sometimes the tank connection here can be quite touchy so slow and steady is the best way to go.
Then take the gas line and while holding the hose end tighten the black collar from the hose onto the other end of the gauge. Once started threading you can hold the gauge to keep it from spinning. Hand tight will be fine do not use a wrench or any other tool you will ruin the plastic sleeve.
Most inline gauges also have a safety regulator built-in. This senses any strange variation of the gas flow and will automatically lower the flow of gas down to next to nothing. This safety regulator can cause you some grief, if you turn your burners up and down to quickly. It can be reset but the regulator must be removed from both the tank and hose for it to reset. [links]
