In order to obtain your license you must log at least 360 days at sea within the course of five consecutive years. A day at sea is defined as four consecutive hours. Even if you are not directly captaining or assisting the captain, the hours can still count towards your credentialing. If you are captaining a ship under the watch of another yacht captain, you will be required to have the captain sign your application. more

In addition to salary: It is customary that owners provide food, uniforms, transportation, and other onboard expenses such as laundry, soap, linens, ect. Health and dental insurance after a probationary period of 30 - 90 days is normal, as well as periodic performance evaluations for pay increases.

NOTE: The speed of the boat that we use to calculate sailing time comes from you, the vessel OWNER! If you tell me the boat is faster than it really is the estimate could be off by 1 or more days resulting in more cost to you. DON'T EXAGGERATE! here
