To become a yacht captain, you first need to obtain a license. There are a few different levels of Captain’s licenses and you should attend the class that will give you the highest leveled license that you can qualify for.
For an average mega yacht that operates with 12 crew members, your expenses for the operation could be anywhere between 4 and 10 million dollars.
The Six-Pack Captain’s License would allow you to captain a boat with up to 6 paying passengers plus crew. The vessel can only weigh 100 gross tons or less.
This license is generally used for vessels that engage in charter fishing, scuba diving, or tour cruises.

A captain’s license is formally known as a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC). Along with completing the actual application form, there are a few other pieces of documentation that you must submit to complete your packet. here
In order to obtain your license you must log at least 360 days at sea within the course of five consecutive years. A day at sea is defined as four consecutive hours. Even if you are not directly captaining or assisting the captain, the hours can still count towards your credentialing. Monthly salaries for second officers start at just over €3000 on private yachts between 0-40m in length and increase to near €5500 for a similar role on yachts between 81-100m. The average monthly salary is around €4500 a month across all vessel sizes and contract types. here
The average monthly salary for a Chief Officer starts at just under €4000 for charter yachts less than 40m in size. Chief Officers/Chief Mates with permanent contracts on yachts over 101m in length have the greatest earning potential, with an average monthly salary approaching €9000. Chief Officers/ Chief Mates on private yachts less than 80m in size earn a higher average monthly salary than those on charter vessels. In addition to salary: It is customary that owners provide food, uniforms, transportation, and other onboard expenses such as laundry, soap, linens, ect. Health and dental insurance after a probationary period of 30 - 90 days is normal, as well as periodic performance evaluations for pay increases.
Vacation and time off vary on a vessel's schedule, but 4 - 6 weeks paid holiday per year and a 5 - 6 day work week unless on charter is standard.

TRAVEL and OTHER COSTS: Transportation cost round trip (from our base to your vessel departure point and return travel to our base from your vessels destination for all crew members) using practical means: Rental car +fuel, Amtrak/Train, Uber, Lyft, Taxi, Bus or Airfare.
Crew Travel Pay: Daily rate is half of the crew agreed daily rate $175 for Captain and $87.50 Hand = $262.50 day.

Travel Expenses: Transportation To Vessel $300 +
Return Travel $550 = $850
Travel Expense plus Tavel Pay $850.00+ $525.00= $1375.00
Crew Pay: $5950 + Travel $1375.00 = $7325.00
