Take the Ionian Princess, which boasts a sun deck featuring a Jacuzzi and breathtaking views. The gorgeous boat, originally built in 2005, also includes luxury accommodations across six cabins for up to 12 guests. Likewise, the Dutch-built Sirocco, which was made in 2006, also features a sun deck but it's equipped with a gym, making it even more special. Elsewhere on-board there's an alfresco party deck, theater, and plenty of other amenities for fun both on and off the water. [links]

As for the mid-range yachts, the Eros is currently not available for rent, nor is the recently-redone Honor. The biggest super-yachts, meanwhile, are way out of seemingly anybody's price range. The aforementioned Talisman Maiton goes for the same massive fee no matter the time of year, while My Seanna, at 185 feet, is $294,000 a week in the winter and $315,500 a week in summer. more

Still, it's fun to dream. And if our funds ever permit us to, the first stop would be one of these huge boats replete with gold bathroom fixtures, luxuriously expansive guest cabins, and Michelin-star service. So, how much exactly would that set you back?

Those looking to appear on Below Deck might get a discount as, according to The Forward Cabin, charter guests who feature only pay around $11,000 each for the privilege, and that includes airfare, hotels, and more. The charters are shorter, however, clocking in at just a few days each according to Worldwide Boat. more

Chartering a luxury yacht, particularly one featured on Below Deck, costs so much for one major reason: You're getting a first class experience. As noted by Worldwide Boat, the expert crews working these boats are the best of the best (despite what the hit show and its spin-off, may lead us to believe), and the amenities boasted by each truly have to be seen to be believed. Put simply, this is a once in a lifetime vacation. [links]

It's still a massive discount considering the show's own Kate Chastain told ET, "Generally a boat that size, 150 foot — this one's 160, Valor — but around that price range, for seven days, is around $150,000. But that does not include airfare, fuel, food, wine, docking, tip. So, I would say for a boat like Valor, for a week vacation, it would be around a quarter of a million dollars." here

A yacht party might sound like something reserved for the rich and famous but, as more and more people are discovering, that’s not the case at all. Often the cost of renting a yacht for a party, here in Miami anyway, is comparable to that of renting a land-based venue like a hotel banquet room or nightclub back room. more

Prices do not go down for longer holidays either. Two weeks is twice the price of one, said Ziriakus.

Neither Ziriakus nor Peterson foresee charter prices falling due to the coronavirus outbreak. Gustin believes the global pandemic may actually result in higher demand for private charters. here

"We only work 'per week,'" said Ziriakus, noting Northrop & Johnson's average charter is 10 days. "Sometimes an owner might accept a shorter duration, but (it's) not very common." [links]

Some destinations have short seasons, which increase demand. Travis Peterson owns and operates Alaska Charter Services' Adventurous, a 56-foot charter vessel that provides sportfishing and sightseeing trips in southeast Alaska. Due to inclement weather in Alaska, he runs tours for half the year.

Post-purchase, an owner should expect to pay around 20% or more of a yacht’s initial purchase price annually to keep it running. So in theory, a $10 million yacht would set you back $2 million a year in operational costs. Fuel (lots of it), vessel insurance, dockage fees, maintenance and repairs, and crew salaries are typically the heftiest running costs. more

“Super yachting” is officially one of the world’s most extravagant hobbies. And there’s a very good reason for that: It costs a massive amount of money. Luxury yachts are among the most expensive asset purchases. And it’s not just that the initial capital, which can run tens to hundreds of millions of dollars, is high. Yachts also come with tremendous annual running costs that often soar over $1 million.

Several banks and marine lenders will finance the purchase of a super yacht, either via a leasing transaction or via a marine mortgage. And offering your super yacht for charter can fetch attractive returns. However, if you have to cost-rationalize the purchase, perhaps buying one of these vessels isn’t the best way to go. Instead, you could always charter one for the same floating luxury feeling without all of the ownership responsibilities. There are also fractional ownership schemes that share financial responsibility (and super yacht enjoyment) among a party of investors without the full capital outlay.

Dockage fees can run about $350,000 and administration about $70,000. Maintenance and repairs can be in the millions, as can crew salaries. The upkeep of the 590-foot super yacht Azzam, owned by President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, is estimated at $60 million per year, although it does come with two helipads and a missile defense system. more
