Yes, its 50:1. If this motor is new to you, you need to perform some maintanance. I own the exact motor and with some TLC it has basically given me trouble free operation for the past 4 years.

If you need help send me an e-mail to vze2mfqx@verizon.net

After using the correct oil/gas mix you need to to a decarb and after that swap the plugs out. Also, change the lower unit oil. (THIS IS TRICKY) on this model. The drain plug is a very small allen wrench fitting on the front of the lower unit. If it doesn't come off e-mail me and I will tell you how to get it out.

Use GOOD oil. I like Quicksilver Premium Plus 2 cycle.

Hey FTB I just bought a boat with the same motor but an 89 and I have 2 issues with it you might be able to help me with. It is hard to get going. Stalls allot. It has new plugs and stators. The other thing is the motor slowly sinks down. Is there a hydraulic adjustment.
Thanks Rick [links]

I’ve got a 1966 6hp Johnson boat motor what’s the mixture for gas

It depends on what your recommended ratio is. Theses are our recommendations though:
For a 50:1 ratio of gas to oil, use 2.6 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
For a 40:1 mixture, use 3.2 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
For a 32:1 mixture, use 4 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas. more

I have an early 70s chain saw with a recommended mixture ratio of 20:1. I have been told that the newer 50:1, 2 stroke oil can be used in older engines at the lower ratio of 50:1. What are your thoughts on this? [links]

Hereof, what happens if you put 2 cycle oil in a 4 cycle engine? more

Similarly, what kind of gas does a 4 cycle engine use? A four-cycle engine uses normal gasoline, like your car (which also happens to be a 4 stroke engine), and the oil is injected from a separate reservoir.

There is no difference between "2-cycle" and "4-cycle" fuel except that 2-cycle engines use the fuel as a lubricant, so oil has to be mixed in with the fuel (gasoline). 4-cycle engines are usually made to closer tolerances so having oil mixed with the fuel can gum them up and cause overheating. more

What happens when you mix oil and gasoline? [links]

Older two-stroke Mercury outboard motors require hand mixing of oil and gas. Newer models like the OptiMax motors have an oil injection system that keeps the ratio of gas to oil correct. If you are using an older model two-stroke outboard motor, here is some advice for mixing fuel:

As a general rule of thumb, add three ounces of Mercury 2 stroke premium outboard motor oil for each gallon of gas. Pour the gas and oil into a singular container. Close the gas container tightly and then shake the container vigorously to ensure that the oil and gasoline mix thoroughly. Once you are confident that the solution is properly mix, add it to your boat’s fuel tank.
