I added a third tube to mine and it made all the difference in the world. I would NEVER own a two tube pontoon again [links]
It's just my opinion, but I would keep the lifting strakes, mount the center toon a couple inches lower and even with the current toons nose cones. again just my opinion.

Believe me when I say you don't want to cut off the front of your engine pod. It does get in the water at very slow and medium speeds. And where is that water going to go if the front of the engine pod is not there to divert it to the side? here
I was polishing my toons yesterday and looking at my express tube--about 12 inches from the front of my engine pod. It's really a very inexpensive addition to get improved performance. I cannot have a center tube storage, and there's no in tube 50 gallon gas tank. But I don't need or want a 50 gallon fuel tank. My boat runs just as fast as the full length 25" Sport Performance Tube now available on my model of Bennington boat. When it comes to boats, all such changes are just compromises of sorts.
I take it you're setting up an "express tube", or 3/4 length toon for the middle. here
There are two main options for adding another hull to your pontoon boat. You can choose to install a premade “mini hull” yourself, or you can pay for a professional to install a regular-sized hull onto your pontoon. more
Pontoon boats are known for being a family-friendly activity, with the added benefit of extra space. They are also generally regarded as a slower, more moderate choice of boat. However, this doesn’t have to be the case for your pontoon. [links]
These are obvious advantages for a watercraft. If you want to take your pontoon to the next level, adding a third hull to your pontoon could be the best option. here
