Read up on Tinboats. There is a process that allows wood to last much longer, and it involves putting several coats of spar urethane on the wood before building. I have never done it but lots have! Jeff. Quote. Link to post. Share on other sites. (='_'=) 77. Posted June 25, 2012 Hi, I am knew to the forum, but have been poking around for awhile because of my own interest in boat building. I am interested in fiberglass boat design and am curious how the plugs work for boats with complex curves. For example, the Chris Craft Carina has a curved back making it hard to lift straight out. This Chris Craft no sea . Buy enough half-inch or three-quarter-inch plywood for all the parts of the new deck, and enough epoxy resin and fiberglass cloth to coat both sides of all the deck parts. Marine-grade plywood is best, but in some areas, MDO or AB/AC exterior plywood is good enough. The boil test is the proof: if a scrap of the plywood starts to peel. Re: putting a deck on a jon boat-anyone done it? just swung by the local boatyard and skeeter has some jon boats that were decked out with sheet aluminum. pretty thin, but felt pretty solid. They used a thicker guage to deck the front of the boat for a casting deck

Fishing Deck Extension Project For Older Tri-Hull Fiberglass Boat Fishing Deck Extension Project For Older Tri-Hull Fiberglass Boat. By J-Doc, January 7 , 2014 in It was probably a wash in cost to replace the seats or build the deck extension. (I didn't keep track but I'd say I spent an easy $400+ mainly due to hardware and not material. Building a small boat is a rewarding passion that is definitely worth it to pursue. In this post, we are discussing the general process of how to build a boat. Take note that you can do this on your own, or you can ask assistance from a friend I started building a deck extension for my 94 Pantera 2 last night. I'm planning on making it a lot like the one BassCat made for it with a lid over the tackle shelf in front of the console and a door going from the deck to the floor between the rod box and the console

Many asked for boats with the same qualities but with a vee-hull. We designed a set of rugged, simple to build work boats with a vee-hull based on a proven work boat type, the Panga. In Mexico, the word panga applies to any small boat but mostly to beach launched skiffs between 18 and 26' long. The pangas have a narrow beam and high bow Ryan Moody Fishing. 13 hrs ·. Measure the size of the frame needed for the support of the plywood, and cut out the accurate measurement from the studs. Once you have all the pieces together, assemble the deck frame, and then bring it to your boat for testing. Remember to add extra side support on the frame for added stability. here

You can use glue to connect the carpet to the deck, or you can staple the carpet for a snug fit. If you have extra carpet cutting, you can also cover the frame of the deck in order to protect your boat seat from scratches. [links]

After you have connected the frame to the plywood, turn the plywood around and use the screws guidelines to completely attach the frame and the plywood together. Once done, bring the deck formation on top of your boat for testing. [links]

When your removable casting deck is ready, it is time to install the carpet. Take note that it is best to choose a non-skid carpet for your deck, since it is crucial to keep your balance while you are standing on the deck to catch some fish. Simply place the carpet on the ground, with the front facing down. Place the surface of the plywood deck on top of the carpet, and cut out the carpet with three to five inches allowance for attaching the carpet to the deck. [links]

A boat made with aluminum is a lightweight vessel that will last for many years with low maintenance. It is a perfect boat for leisure and fishing, and to complete the aesthetic and usefulness of your boat, you should consider building a casting deck.

The clean-up phase. This may be a bit more involved than expected because when you’re done with that rotten boat deck you’ll have to get rid of a huge pile of moldy, delaminated plywood and fiberglass. Even doing the small 18-footer, we filled the bed of a Toyota Tacoma and had to spend time cutting a few pieces down to make them fit.

Use fiberglass putty to bed the deck along stringers and bulkheads and then screw the decking in place. Fill the seams with more fiberglass putty, let it harden, and then sand until the entire deck is flush and smooth. here

Final surface application. You can make this stage really easy, and it will only take a few hours if you cheat a bit – use a kit. On our rebuild, we used Rhino Lining, but there are a number of products you can get like Tuffcoat Marine and KiwiGrip which both have excellent reputations. All versions offer a wide range of colors and surfaces which can be sprayed, brushed, or rolled onto the fiberglass.

You’ll often need to chip fiberglass resin out of screw-heads, in order to remove them. In some cases when they sit flush you can opt to leave them in place, but if you do so, you will have to look out for them when running in the new screws.

Cut new marine plywood to fit. In the case of a square patch, this is no big deal, but if you’re doing an entire rotten boat deck, matching radiuses around the bow can be challenging. It took a friend and me eight hours on the 18-footer. The tools we needed included a measuring tape, circular saw, fasteners, fiberglass resin, fiberglass putty, and a sander and sandpaper.

Be sure to prep old surfaces and overlap them with glass, where possible. [links]
