If you’re sailing in shallow water, sometimes gaps can appear on the display. Correct this by moving in water that’s over 3 feet deep. Of course, this can be a bit inconvenient in case you want to fish in that particular area with shallow water. here

You may face a blank screen problem if you are sailing at a very high speed. If that occurs try lower the speed of your boat or try a trolling speed. To get a more accurate detail in a certain area, you may even consider stopping your boat in several places. here

However, it’s not recommended to replace or splice any wires unless the display unit isn’t completely disconnected from the power source. It’s also not recommended to use any other power source than the one specially designed for the Humminbird model that you’re using. here

If the boat remains in water for a long time, or if you leave the transducer mounted while your boat remains in the water for a long time, chances are algae or other marine life forms may develop on its surface. This can prevent your transducer to send correct data to the display unit. Therefore you should clean up the transducer periodically with liquid detergents.

Take a moment to pat yourself on the back, because all of the hard work is done. If there are any connections that need to be made with your monitor, like fastening it to the bracket or plugging in the transducer table, do them now. After you’ve finished that, all you have left to do is put your boat back together and you’re done.

You now need to give your fish finder a proper power source. While working with wires can seem intimidating if you don’t have an electrical background, it’s not as hard as you may think. [links]

The benefit of going to the battery is that you’re following the path you’ve already cleared for the transducer, which means that you already have some experience doing it. Unless you’re certain that you have empty slots in your fuse box, I’d recommend taking the battery approach.

The first thing you’re going to need to do before you get started is to choose a fish finder for your boat. There are a number of different fish finders available on the market, so finding one that suits your specific needs shouldn’t be hard at all.

With a little bit of help and some knowledge of your boat, you’ll be able to install a fish finder in 45 minutes to a couple of hours.

A touchscreen version would have been nice.

Humminbird fishfinders may have microSD or SD card slots, but not all models support external memory storage. Their SD cards may come loaded with their Humminbird Basemap cartography system if the model you purchase does not have Humminbird Basemap installed. more
