Thanks for the quick reply. It has two pee holes. On both the water comes out in a consistent spray, kinda like with your thumb over a water hose. The previous owner provided me with plenty of information and did mention he replaced the water pump last year. He also said it is a good idea to replace it every 3 to 4 years. The motor runs great. I will clean the pee holes and go from there. Thank you.

So you are saying when I am running my motor at say 3000 rpm down the lake the used cooling water is coming out of the prop? I guess older motors are just that way? here

The 1977 115HP 20" motors do not share the same cooling system as more recent models. They have two water tubes from the water pump, one sends water to the engine and one returns it to the pump.

Part of the cooling and muffling system is keeping the midsection partially filled with water. As the motor is running the water that reaches higher in the midsection is partially released along with the exhaust through those two holes. The faster you go, the more water will be discharged through the two holes. Most of the water and exhaust is always being discharged through the prop.

with these repairs, i do not have the leak in the airbox anymore and no more slight oil sheen trailing in the water behind me..

Doubtful that gas is "blowing" back through the carbs. More likely that it is draining from the carbs into the airbox when tilted or when running tilted in shallow water. A common problem in this vintage engine. You are approaching this correctly: keep a good seal between the airbox halves and make sure the drain hose is connected between the bottom cyl. Not much else can be done. I have to clean my lower cowl and upper swivel areas each fall at the end of the season. more

A small amount of shavings on the drain plug magnet isn't uncommon, but if there's metal in the oil you got problems; otherwise your choices are 1> determine the source of the water and fix that, or 2> go ahead and change all the seals (wildj's post contains a complete list). Myself, I prefer #1, but lots of folks would do a complete re-seal. [links]

Don't worry about that -- when the motor's running the gears churn the oil and if any water is present, it looks kinda like salad dressing when you drain it. After it sits a couple days, the water drops to the bottom and comes out first. [links]

On most outboard engines the cooling system is made up of passages inside the powerhead and cylinder heads, a water pump to transfer coolant and a thermostat sensor to control water temperature of the engine coolant, as well as a few other parts.

Always flush your Evinrude outboard with clean water after boating in polluted, salt or brackish water. Cleansing the outboard by causing large amounts of water to pass through the cooling system after each use will minimize accumulation of silt deposits inside cooling water passages. more

You can flush the boat motor even if it is running or not. It can be flushed while on the trailer or at dockside. But always make sure you flush the engine in a well ventilated area and an area that has sufficient ground drainage. more

Could this be 2 stroke oil that has flowed down and is simply draining out as it should?

If it is 2 stroke oil then I guess I don't need to worry about it. But from what I could tell I think it was gear oil. here

I don't know if the oil that has leaked is 2 stroke oil. (From what was left in the pump system) Or if it is lower unit lube.

History on this boat: I bough tit late summer. Supposedly the lower unit fluid had been changed. Ran it for the rest of the season. Had trouble with the oil injection system pumping way too much oil into the mix. I ended up blocking it off.
