If you’re going out for the day and relaxing, this is not a huge deal unless you have some crazy aftermarket stereo system. [links]

A solar charger works excellent if there are no power outlets to let you charge your battery. So if you have a lake or river home, this will be ideal. [links]

To make this a non-issue for any boat, you can get boat towing membership like from SeaTow or Tow Boat US. It doesn’t cost as much as you think and worth it for the peace of mind.

A stator is not like a magneto as that is only for spark. A stator supplies the power for that and then some.

If you’re noticing your battery is dying after a lot of use, I would make sure the battery is not bad. A good battery in a jet boat won’t have any issues with someone going out and riding and then resting for the afternoon.

An alternator will charge batteries, and so does a stator.

Slide a drain pan under the boat, and pull both plugs. Now go have a beer (or two. ) for an hour or so to give it time to drain and refill with an outboard gear oil pump or something similar like seadoosnipe mentioned, through the center drain/fill plug.

:agree: Good idea on mentioning the pump oil as it is separate from the stator oil. more

Note both plugs have a rubber sealing washer on them. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LOOSE THEM.

The spec that I have always seen, and from experience changing the oil in mine is 550ml. [links]

To change the oil in the pump housing, lay on you back and slide under the boat. Directly in front of the intake grate you will see two large slotted screws, these are your drain and fill plugs. The plug in the center is the drain/fill, and the plug off center to the left of the boat is the vent.

I put my stator on and could only manage to put 600-650mls of HP mercury oil in. I tried from the top drain plug first but that did not work because there was no vent. So I opened both holes and put a hose in the bottom hole. It was very slow to put the oil in by gravity. Finally I simpky blew the oil in. When it started sputtering out of the top hole I put the went plug back in.

I just finished replacing the gear oil in the Jet Pump and the Stator. I did not remove the Stator - Just removed the nozzle so I could access the Stator drain plug. I used a small plastic hose to siphon out all the oil from the stator and refilled it until it spilled out of the top fill plug.
My question is do you fill it till it spills out the top hole or should I have measured the 3.4 ounces as shown in the manual. Also what is the screw in the pointed area of the stator for? Could I have removed it to drain the stator a little easier?

There are two lube areas on the M2: The front of the impeller shaft (where the driveshaft and impeller shaft are connected via a set of bevel gears) and the rear of the impeller shaft (inside the stator). To do this job youll need a metric socket set, large flatblade screwdriver, 1/4 inch Allen wrench, two bottles of Mercury Premium Plus Gear Lube, Mercury lube hand pump, oil drain pan, wire brush, thread sealant, antiseize, and blue (medium strength) Loctite. here

Maintenance is recommended by Mercury every 50-100 hours (depending upon the maintenance action). "Winterization" includes several standard maintenance steps. Here's the official procedure, straight from Mercury via a personal phone call.

Shut off water, disconnect from flush port, and wait for water to finish draining.

For this winter all I have done so far was to pull out the battery trickel charge it every 45 days, also added some additive (heat- brand) to the fuel tank and removed all spark plugs, squirted some 30/ weight motor oil into the engine cyinders, then replaced the spark plugs. The engine only has 40 or less hours on it since 01/08 and at that time the stator fluids were changed.
