A laser level comes in handy so you can align the ceiling plate directly over the floor plate. Before attaching the ceiling plate, however, lay it on the floor beside the installed floor plate; use a measuring tape and a straightedge to make pencil marks on both to indicate the placement of wall studs. Standard studs are 16 inches apart, measured from the center of one stud to the center of the next stud. Attach the ceiling plate using the same nailing pattern used for the floor plate. The ceiling plate will attach either to the ceiling joists it crosses or to the blocking. here

Once the floor and ceiling plates are in place, installing the wall studs is relatively simple. The caveat here is that you must measure the distance between the plates for every stud and cut each one to fit. Because the floor is uneven, the studs will not all be the same length. Cut the studs on the outside edge of your measurement line to ensure that they fit snugly between the plates before attaching them with 8d nails at the top and bottom. The standard nailing pattern for attaching wall studs is to insert two nails, evenly spaced, at a 45-degree angle on one side of the stud and a single nail, in the middle, on the other side of the stud. Nailing at an angle is called “toenailing” and the same pattern is used to attach the top and the bottom of each stud. [links]

When a floor is uneven, the best way to frame a new wall is to set the floor and ceiling plates first. Use a chalk line on the floor to indicate wall placement, and cut a 2-by-4 to fit. Attach the board, which serves as the floor plate, with 16d nails, two per floor joist, evenly spaced. If the wall is running parallel to the joists, insert the two nails through the board and into the subfloor every 12 to 16 inches. [links]

Although most floors start out relatively level, over time a house can settle and shift, resulting in cracked walls, gaps along the ceilings and sloping floors. New-construction builders often frame walls by laying them out on the floor and then standing them up and attaching them. That’s not possible when the floor slopes, but you can still build a strong wall by framing it in place.

If you choose to frame the new wall parallel to the joists, the top of the wall needs something sturdy to hold the ceiling plate. You must install blocking, and this step is not affected by the slope of the floor. To install blocking, measure and cut 2-by-4 lumber to fit between the ceiling joists and install a “block” every 16 inches between the two joists on either side of the location for the new wall. here

You'll need a circular saw for cutting the plates and studs. A framing hammer, or a regular hammer along with 16d and 8d nails, is used to attach the plates and wall studs. While a laser level works best for aligning the ceiling plate, a simple plumb bob will work in a pinch.

Pouring concrete on a sloped surface needs excellent skills and experience to perform the work as planned. Commonly, low slump concrete is used for sloped concrete members, driveways, and wheelchair ramps.

Make sure concreting begins from the lowest point of the slope. Then, concreting progresses slowly upward. more

The maximum slope for the walkway should not surpass 5%. The percentage of the slope is calculated by dividing rise over run multiply 100.

Q. How to best pour a level concrete floor over the existing sloped concrete floor for a garage conversion into living space.

A. We do concrete overlays like this all the time. All you have to do is install a layer of Typar on top of the old slab. You don't want the two concrete slabs to bond to each other, you want them to be able to move independently of each other. This minimizes cracking. more

Use a 3000 psi 3/8 peastone concrete mix from a redi-mix concrete plant. Use a laser level to mark your grades on your interior and exterior walls. Pour the new floor over the old floor just as you would any new concrete floor.
