Open the container and pour the adhesive in a serpentine pattern onto the wood deck in front of the roll. The serpentine ribbons of adhesive should be approximately 1.5” wide. Cover an area that extends the width of the roll and out form the roll 15’. Using the medium nap paint roller, roll over the adhesive blending it together and completely covering the wood surface. The consistency and coverage of the adhesive should represent a heavy coat of paint. Do not leave puddles of adhesive or dry spots on the wood surface. Finish the area of adhesive application in a relatively straight line across the width of the boat. more

Aluminum or Fiberglass Surface - Application Prior to applying the MariDeck vinyl, inspect the surface of the boat to be covered to make sure all debris, dust, screws, or any foreign objects have been removed. Use a leaf blower or broom at this time to insure the surface is completely clean. [links]

Seams - It is possible to overlap the vinyl and create a seam although exposed seams should be avoided as much as possible. In pre-cutting the vinyl pieces, try to utilize pieces of vinyl that will hide the seams under overhangs, under seats or aligned with the seams in the aluminum. You can also butt seams by performing a “wall paper cut”. Over lap the two pieces of product then, following the edge of the top vinyl, use a sharp utility knife to cut through the bottom vinyl. Fold the top layer back slightly, remove the trimmed piece of bottom vinyl, and then, fold the top layer back in place to butt the vinyl.

Fabric widths vary from 6 feet to 8.5 feet, giving you options based on your boat size. Simply roll the fabric over the plywood, and cut it so there are a few extra inches hanging off the bow and stern areas. To ensure perfect adhesion in the next step, lay the fabric flat for at least thirty minutes prior to glue exposure. more

Made specifically for life on the water, this fabric goes the distance, but getting there is half the battle. If you install marine vinyl flooring yourself, you need a few tools and materials on deck.

Once your glue is set, use the cardboard tube that came with the fabric to roll half of your marine vinyl fabric onto the plywood. Then, use this tube to smooth out air bubbles and inconsistencies across the surface. [links]

You don’t want your hard work to go to waste with a peeling floor. Although the adhesive is heavy duty, secure your flooring from bow to stern using a staple gun and stainless steel staples around the edges.

Use a tape measure to measure the area where you will be installing the vinyl. Transfer this measurement to the marine plywood. If the area is larger than a single sheet of plywood, butt the sheets together and lay the measurements out on the sheets, marking the dimensions on the plywood with a pencil and "connecting the dots" to show the lines for saw cuts in the plywood.

Turn the vinyl face down on the ground and lay one of the plywood sheets on the vinyl. Use the pencil to trace around the vinyl. Remove the plywood sheet and use heavy-duty scissors to cut the vinyl along the pencil lines. Repeat this process for each piece of plywood. here

When the flooring on your boat's deck needs to be replaced, you may decide to replace it with vinyl boat flooring. Vinyl will look good for some time, it resists damage at least as well as any other flooring, except steel, and, in a boat, laying vinyl only requires one more step than laying vinyl in a house. If you've already removed the flooring that the vinyl will replace, you might even finish the project in a single weekend.

I have never used either product and I am looking for any tips and advice for covering the panels in vinyl: tools i need, techniques, etc. what works best to spread the adhesive and does it need to be thinned?

So far I have sanded the panels down and am using a gripper/sealer to paint them

The largest panel is 4'x10' and then i have a number of smaller peices; 2'x6', 3'x3' etc.
