“Do you really need a saver” is a serious question! The transom saver neutralizes harmful vibrations to the boat’s transom during towing. It also protects both the transom and the hydraulic tilt/trim from damage caused by the forward and backward bouncing of the watercraft when towed. [links]

Its name would infer that a transom saver is a gadget intended to shield your boat’s transom from undue pressure while towing your vessel. A typical contention against the requirement for one of these is that the force applied upon your transom amid common sailing conditions enormously surpasses those experienced while towing. here

The transom saver basically works together with your trailer’s back roller and directs the weight from the engine and the trim to the trailer and not the transom. All vessels and outboards will be unique so make sure to check the manual/documentation for further info. [links]

Just be sure not to raise the engine so much while planing that it begins to cavitate. This way of planing your boat is quicker and much safer. [links]

Because you cannot do it when you are on the water. This is because it will require a jack to hold the engine.

Without having to remove the engine, these are a step above the fixed jack plates. But still limit you from the ability to move the engine up or down while underway! more

Where as the tiller motors are more of a mandatory thing. The jack plates are necessary to mount the tiller motor.

I really don?t want a setback plate. I don?t want to add the weight and I?d rather not go for that kind of $. My motor is a 50hp 2 stroke. It weighs 145lbs. A 40hp 4 stroke weighs 119lbs more. My thoughts are don?t make a habit of flooring it so the tork doesn?t destroy things and I should be OK.

Well to make a long story short, I got an email reply from T & R. Basically what they said was No. It won?t work because of the curved transom. I?m going to call T&R in the AM and see if I can speak with anyone. Links for next two options I see are listed below. I guess what I?m having a difficult time with, is the distance between the two engine mount bolts is 7 ? inches in a straight vertical line. I also have two thumb type screws, same distance apart. At the center of the transom is the curve really going to be a problem? I?m trying to avoid a homemade one. But an advantage I see with you design is that I can do a little bending to compensate for the curve of the Whaler transom. here

The transom must have enough strength. To check this, you might need to get a fiberglass expert. Add plywood to the insides of the transom if needed. more

Before trying to install your outdoor bracket, make sure that you have already sanded it. Prime it and apply paint in your desired color. Use a rag to wipe away dust from sanding before starting to prime your bracket. Place the bracket on top of layered old newspapers to ensure that paint won’t drip in your working area.

Drill holes for your stainless steel boats. Remember that the bolts of your bracket must be at least 10 inches apart to provide strength. Tape the areas where the outboard bracket would be sealed (including the nut areas) to ensure that the sealant won’t take the paint off your boat. here

It is also best to work indoors to ensure that your engine won’t get wet from any unexpected rain.
